Starting PG... who you pick? Topic

Both players are the same in defense.

Player A
ATH 64  SP 78  PE 56  BH 62  P 53

Player B
ATH 45  SP 69  PE 82  BH 69  P 65

My instinct is to go with B for better BH and P... but player A has a significant ATH/SP advantage.

What would y'all do?

assuming that their potentials and all other ratings are equal or irrelevant, player A. the difference in BH is neglible. i'd take the bump in SPD and jump at the 19 point (40%!) ath difference, even if it means taking a lesser passer.

probably because the season is over and he's planning for next :)

Ah, okay. I didn't look close enough. My bad.

it depends. its hard because its not clear what you need this pg for - what abilities are most important - as well as what system you play, and what the other ratings are (reb, def, lp, sta, ft%).

based on the limited information at hand, if you have a strong offensive starting lineup (at the other 4 positions), especially with a strong passer at sg and possibly even sf, it would make player A the easy choice. on the other hand, if your offense is lacking, and you have no other 3 point shooting to speak of, it makes player B the easy choice. it really depends on the circumstances, if you want to elaborate, i'd be happy to take another crack at it! you don't have to enumerate all the other players, but if you can summarize, with some details on the SG in particular, thats probably enough. for example, on the big 4 abilities - offense, defense, guard skills, and rebounding (although rebounding matters less here, obviously) - how does the rest of your starting lineup stack up? what are the PGs's other ratings, and what sets do you run? offensively, how does your defensive line stack up? this last bit matters because that player B would be a great backup if you have enough offense on the starting lineup but crap offense on the backup line.

Sounds good, Gillispie. And yes, Wildcat, while I am often a dumbass... I'm planning for next season.

Unless I end up landing a recruit with better skills than these 2 (unlikely... but I'll try) who can start immediately as a guard, these 2 players will be my starting PG and SG.

Obviously Player B is more of a scorer... but my instinct to start him at the 1 spot instead of the 2 spot is maybe wrong when Player A has superior ATH/SP.

I have good scoring inside from the starting PF and C. I expect to have little scoring from SF. The 3 main scorers on my team will be Player B and the 2 returning starters I have at PF and C. Both averaged about 10 ppg as Juniors.

I run motion.

Absolutely B is the PG if both are starting.  He'll shoot about the same in either spot, but his BH/P will help your team more at the 1.

So you value BH/P at the 1 more than you value ATH/SP?
