If I have an accepted trade involving me sending a ML player out and getting a prospect back, and I designate that ML player for assignment, will that void the accepted trade for that player? I'm trading the player to open a roster spot, and I need the spot within 2 HBD days to put a guy I just traded for into his rotation slot.

Bumping this thread because I have the same question.  Does it void the trade or incur an immediate ratings penalty if I DFA a guy involved in a pending trade so that I can bring his replacement off the DL?

You DFA him with the no waiver option. That way he leaves your roster but is in limbo until the trade goes through - if he goes on waivers, then another team can claim him.
