Does it make any difference at all in the sims?

There is a slight built in advantage to the home team.

Sometimes it makes a big difference. At one point in my current league I was 21-1 at home and 7-15 on the road. I think that's a bit unrealistic. A team good enough to win 21 of 22 at home should at least be able to go .500 against essentially the very same teams on the road!

Before the season starts home teams are picked as 3 point favorites.

2010-2011 Washington Wizards at one point in the season: home(14-12) away(0-25), overall discrepancy: .538 (end of season: .415)
1990-1991 Sacramento Kings: home(24-17) away(1-40), overall discrepancy: .543

Your discrepancy: .522

It might be incredibly rare, but it happens.

neither of the teams you mentioned were that dominant at home, though.

The HCA thing flipped a few years ago.  Used to, it didn't seem that big of a deal.  You'd see what you expected to see (a dominant team like bizzarrd's at home would be above .500 on the road)... but at some point it went extreme...

What I can't figure out is exactly what playing at home does for you.  It takes way more effort to track the necessary data than I have ever cared to spend.

Not quite the discrepancy you have, but that's a dominant home team with a sub .500 record on the road.

I think bizzarrd's team is the exception, usually there is only a few wins difference between the home and away record in the sim.

I don't know... I'll pay more attention with my remaining teams, but I feel like it's been drastically different over the last couple of years.

edit:  my current teams seem to be more consistent than my memory.

Judging by my last league, we were averaging 8.4 win difference.    NBA last year was about 7.7.  All NBA and sim teams had more home wins than road wins.

Well, things evened out a little for my team by the end of the season: 38-3 at home, 24-17 on the road. I guess that's reasonable.
