Errors v plus plays Topic

Any threads out there weighing the benefit of plus plays and the cost of errors? Thanks

I'll bump one showing the value of + plays.    "C at 1B" or something.    FWIW, an error is the exact opposite of a plus play.  They hold equal value, IMO.

I don't think it's quite that simple because it matters where the error (or plus play) happen. A 1b who makes an error (or plus play) likely will not hurt (or help) as much a CF doing the same. If a 1b drops a ball or misses a grounder that's probably only one base given up whereas a CF doing the same is probably 2-3 bases and that's worth more (thinking linear weights).

Expanding on that logic to actually answer the question in a roundabout way, a CF making a plus play to rob a sinking liner might save one base but making an error might cost 2+ bases; whereas a 1b making a plus play might save 2+ bases (if it had gone down the line) but an error probably only cost 1 base.

In other words, overall, across all positions, on average, a plus play and an error probably cancel out and worth 1:1 but at an individual position it might be 2:1 one way or another

My assumption, perhaps incorrect, was that he was asking about same position error vs + play.     An error produces an extra out for the opponent.   A plus play, in most cases, takes away a hit.

If we were to break down individual situations, an error with a 9 run lead is meaningless.

I was wondering about a plate with an above avg range and below avg glove- he had a bunch of plus plays but a much lower fielding percentage

And I was trying to weigh his defensive production

Do the folks in Jose Can U C know you're running two teams?  Because it looks like you're asking the same question under two usernames.

I use a very simple formula to measure "positive plays per season" over a full 162 game, 9 innings.    If you tell me which team/player, I can tell you if he's hurting/helping you when compared to others at the position.

Sorry- not running teams under new names- I had my girlfriend take a team in Jose can u see to help it fill and she ended up liking the game and joining a few more leagues- I just was using her iPad before.

Not sure if there is a problem with her and I in the same league- my brother and I are in four leagues together and I've invited other family members etc...

I'm not in that world so I certainly don't care.    But I'm sure you know how wrong this thread looks when two users appear to be the same person.

So, do you want me to evaluate your player's production?

Was the player I was looking at though the fielding percentage changed dramatically since I looked him (I guess two games worth of chances for a part time player)

But his cf numbers kind of reflect what I'm talking about

He's a good CF.   Compared to a group of my guys I had saved to find a "good" PPPS number.   400 is very good.

So is it fair to conclude range matters more than glove?
7/17/2014 7:33 PM
Also is it different in the OF and in the IF?
7/17/2014 7:33 PM

In CF, yeah.    SS, I don't think so because you get so many more chances.
