Does potential cap go down? Topic

Now and then I have guys who get to a level in some rating (maxed), then decline a point in the offseason and no matter how much time we spend on it we can get that point back.

I have done stuff like put 40 minutes into that skill - since everything else is maxed out - and cant get that lost point back.

Do others see that?  Whats going on do you think?

i think its the same bug we see with stamina, where once a guy caps out, his rate of improvement is forever locked at approximately nothing, it somehow does not get reset to current ratings.

that makes sense.  I only recall seeing it when a guy has maxed out and then loses a point in offseason.  Might happen other times, but that is when I have noticed.

well, thats the only time it can happen, by my way of thinking. since the very beginning of potential, the pillar of my understanding of potential with respect to player growth was that the rate of improvement (positive or negative) was tied to the amount of growth left (this has since been confirmed by admin, but still). this led to my 0 minute practice theory (0 minutes in a capped category wont hurt you) that i had to defend for a good year or two before people decided to try it instead of simply proclaiming me wrong by pasting that CS ticket where admin said 7 minutes (not that im still bitter or anything, lol).

anyway, by that theory, the only way you can decrease from a capped or very close to capped position is through offseason improvement (i wish deprovement was a word, it would fit so much nicer with improvement than decrease or defining improvement to include negatives!). so i am pretty sure thats the only time you could see it. admin has already admitted the bug, and said he can't fix it (well, won't because its too hard to be practical, in case the word mincers come along), so i think we can safely assume that is the problem and that we just have to live with it.

de-provement could be a word, if "gruntled" can be a word, to make sense of "disgruntled"

the odd thing about forum debates like this, is that they are testable

in my experience, if you get maxed out and go to zero there is usually no numerical reduction - perhaps a decline to a few tenths

except, when I go to zero after maxing out FT and then say five games later come back and put 11 or 12 in FT, I can get rather soon a second maxed FT message.  Suggests some different decline pattern in FT vs other skills.....but who knows.

i agree, i think FT and the other ratings are somewhat different. not just like lp and per, i think those are hacked up to be different but run off the same improvement code as the rest, but FT does seem pretty different. its kind of funny actually, i almost never get maxed out messages, i always cut guys off early now to work on other stuff, until they are basically capped everywhere anyway and i ignore the messages for those kinds of players. what happens at maxed out now i just assume hasn't changed, i could be totally wrong!
