According to the season outlook stats page for 1 year ahead. (1902)
Menefee played in 75 games total (250 AB) hitting .231. The defensive stats page shows 18 games at 1B, 1 Game at 2B, 2 games at 3B, and 23 games in the outfield. That's a total of 44 games defensively. The pitcher stats for the same year show 25 games with 229 IP and a 1.15 WHIP.
44 + 25 = 69. I must assume the other 6 games to be PH or PR appearances. (or he appeared defensively AND on the mound in the same game, to account for the games played difference) As you can see he appeared in more games as a Pitcher (25) than at any other position. (outfield is next with 23). And he was much more effective and useful as a Pitcher. Maybe the WIS decision to have him appear ONLY in the hitters database is NOT a mistake, BUT it sure seems to me to be some sort of anomaly. I'm thinking he'd be drafted and used by far more owners IF we could have him listed in the Pitchers database for 1902.
After all--------he appeared in more games on the mound than at any other position. Call it whatever you like. His 1902 season seems to be his best Pitching stats for any season, and he appears in the 1903 Pitching database with a far less usable season and poorer R/L stats.
This is what happens when you design a "system" with criteria that can NOT be adjusted for specific situations. My progressive team has a player whom I can NOT use as his R/L performance would suggest he be used. I call that a flaw if not a mistake.
