Trading for player on waivers Topic

If you trade for a player on the waiver wire (before transaction deadline), does that negate any waiver wire claim on the player? Someone waived a solid RP in my world and rather than lose him to another owner via waivers (Im 29th), can I negotiate a trade with the original owner instead?

No, the trade will be nullified by the waiver claim if someone else claims the player.  The trade approval period is as longer-than/as-long-as the waiver wire period, so by the time you notice a player is on waivers, it's too late to successfully acquire him in a trade

The trade period is 24 hours while the waiver period is 48. I think you might have that backwards.

oh. Well, this exact scenario just happened to me this week.  I waived a guy and literally 5 minutes later a guy sent me a trade involving the same player, and I accepted it.  Everything was initiated in the same cycle but the waiver claim was processed first and the trade was nullified

Weird. I would think the logical order would the trade processes first, which changes the player's status so that the waiver status is removed.

I think if you waive someone after the PM2 Part 2 cycle but before AM Part 1, that is the rare instance where the trade process will be the same length as the waiver process.

Well I know I'll be tossing and turning in anticipation of the result.

Waivers take 48 hours (to the next 1/2 cycle) to go through. Trades 24 hours.

I'd have bet this isn't possible.

Are you 100% sure on the timing?

If so, I'd like to see what customer support has to say about it. In my experience, they're good about answering specific questions like this.

Waivers take until the second midnight after you waive them, not the full 48 hours.  If you waive someone after PM2 cycle 2 but before midnight you will be unable to trade him.

This is correct.   What pjfoster claims could not have happened unless there was a glitch.    And, in 135+ seasons, I've never seen it happen.

Mike-- are you sure this could not have all happened without a glitch in the very narrow window between PM2 cycle 2 and midnight?

Reasonably sure.   The Rule 5 freeze mucks up trades/waiver wire claims but that's the only thing I've experienced.  That said, anything is possible but I'd like to see an example.

Just to provide result: Trading for a waived player before the transaction deadline did result in getting the player and him disappearing from the waiver wire.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Javier Cruz was the player i'm referencing. I went back to re-create it based on the Correspondence menu. I do remember accepting two trades at the same time at like 12:15am (PT) on 11/10, one that involved trading away Cruz and a different one that involved trading away this player: Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Christopher Gray.  It looks like on 11/11 at 4am the Gray trade was approved and the Cruz trade was actually vetoed at the end of day 1 with the same time stamp as the Gray trade approval, so I must have actually went to re-do the Cruz trade a 2nd time on 11/11 (with him still on the waiver wire) and then on the 2nd attempt it was nullified because of the waiver claim being processed a half-cycle or two sooner based on the timing of the other guy accepting the trade the 2nd time. at the time I must not have even realized there was a veto wedged in between or whatever when i saw the OP.

Everything else about the story was true though...
