Changes in potential Topic

OK, so, been out of the game for a few years and just came back so potential is new to me.  One of the players I signed was listed as high potential in athleticism and speed, but now that the season has started he is no longer showing high potential.  Am I correct in assuming the whole potential thing is not always going to turn out to be what FSS and your scouting trips say?

I would guess that he was at the bottom of the High potential and now that he has practiced he has improved enough that if has knocked him down into the Average category.  He should improve 19 more points in each if I'm not mistaken.

On the second page in this forum there is a post by AEJONES "How to win at D2 and D3", in this he to a great detail explains potential.  READ IT!! It should catch you up to date on anything that has might changed since you were last here.  Good to have you back!! ***I went ahead and bumped it to the first page for you***

Thanks.  I did read it a couple of weeks ago but I didn't retain all of it obviously.  Incidentally, it was after one practice, which really kinda sucks...

Yeah, that sucks. What really sucks is when an attribute which is black turns red like you said your blue did. I think in the next update seble needs to address this. It would be nice to scout for the averages just like we do the highs.

Well, there are going to be players at the bottom of the ranges as well as the middle and top, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I don't want recruiting o be that exact of a science. I like there being unexpected disappointments and players who succeed beyond all expectations.

Yeah, if that's the way it is, that's the way it is and I'm fine with it...just means I need to pay more attention during recruiting...just wanted to make sure I was interpreting what happened correctly.

Has nothing to do with paying attention. It has to do with being unlucky and getting a guy on the lowest part of the level.

For the highs it somewhat does have to do with paying attention.  Scouting trips will tell you high high or low high.  A high high will not turn black after one practice.

That's what I was referring to - scouting trips.

So in the scouting reports what are the "high/high" indicators verses the "low/high"...or is there a thread that breaks it down?

steviescott, in your scouting report, there are clues to whether he'll be at the low range of high potential which is a 20-27 point gain. If he's at the high end of high potential, then he's guaranteed to gain at least 28 points. See darnoc's link.

Often times, with speed and athleticism, it's going to be on the low end of high potential. Therefore, if you're just relying on FSS and see high potential in these categories, 65-75% of the time it will be on the low end of high potential.

See, I know all about the high/high and low/highs and will hit them all when "pulling" a guy down from D2.  But at the D3 level, it is hard to want to spend those 4 or 5 ST (assuming you don't get lucky and hit what you want the first couple of times).  Does anybody else think this?  Or am I just that bad at where I spend my money? lol.  I will say this so, if I could pick what my assistant scouted, I would be more willing to spend a ST on a potential guy I want in the D3 pool.
