I recruited a kid who had blue potential at 58 athleticism and 35 speed. After our first exhibition, his ratings are still 58 and 35, but the numbers are no longer blue. What gives? If the potential was high before, why is it not when nothing has changed?

Nothing new. It sucks but happens to me almost every season.

i believe he gained a number under 1 so the decimals imcreased and now technically his potential has changed? i may not be descbing it correctly though

It has changed, by a fraction of a point.  Even though they are represented as whole numbers, they're either rounded or truncated, and it's almost certainly truncated.  So he has to gain a whole point to show improvement, but as soon as he gained a fraction of a point potential went from high to average.  I'm pretty confident that starting ratings and final ratings are always integers.  High potential cuts off at 21.  If he had exactly 21 potential in ATH and SPD, then you would expect after 1 practice with minutes in conditioning to see them both drop to average, with 20.x points of growth left.  Bad luck for them both to be the bare minimum of high potential, but you should anticipate that in ATH/SPD/DEF in particular, which tend heavily towards the low end of high potential.

I know it occurs too, but I believe it's a flaw too.  Of the millions of frosh who have started----how many have registered a color gain on the first practice after the first exhibition on DAY 1?  I'm not sure I've ever seen a frosh on my team ever increase enough to register a color point change on Day 1 whereas I see returning players register color change points every season on Day 1.  Not saying it hasn't happened to any frosh ever, it very well may for a High WE guy who starts perhaps.  I've just noticed it doesn't occur often or nearly as often as returners.

If a frosh's incoming ratings are really fractional and all over the board within a skill category, then they randomly should increase on Day 1 just like a returning player--who we know have fractional ratings from the previous season.  They don't from what I've seen.  I've observed that returning players are much more apt to gain a registered color point on Day 1 (given the same WE and PT/Start).

So if that is true--and frosh don't register increases on Day 1 to the degree that returning players do with the same WE/PT, then one could assume that FROSH DO NOT enter their freshman year as randomly along the fractional spectrum as we are led to believe.  For if they enter with truly random fractions, then they should be registering color changes on Day 1 to the same degree their returning teammates.

Again I am only talking about DAY 1.
