Durability vs Stamina Topic

I have the number one pick in my league and the number one prospect is a pitcher with phenomenal ratings across the board with one exception...He has a 16 durability - I know the lower durability guys are usually relegated to Mop up duty or LRB /SUB...He has a 91 Stamina, which means he can pitch well into later innings - but with the lower durability, will the recovery time be enough in a 5 man rotation to get to the next start at 100%??...or should I pitch him with a much lower pitch count than he's capable...or should I just draft the # 2 guy, who is almost as good in all ratings and has a better 5 man rotation DUR...thoughts?

My thoughts:

You have to fill 1450 innings per season.   It doesn't matter if you have 7 guys throw 210 each or 14 guys throw 105 each.    If pitcher A is one of your best, you make him work even if he has 16/91.  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Miguel Tabaka at 17/75 is the closest I have.   He's set at 75/90 and he's taken the ball everytime(although I have used 3 spot starts with my staff because ALB is a big hitter's park and fatigue crushes me from time to time).

Your guy can be a starter.   You just have to adjust his PC to make it work the way you want to make it work.   Higher-he is delayed a day sometimes.  Lower-he takes the ball every 5th day.

Don't take the 2nd best pitcher due to DUR/STM when the first guy can easily pitch more than 10% of your innings.

I used Arthur Relaford (DUR 16, ST 85, Cy Young-caliber pitcher) as a dominant Setup A for several seasons, got 120 outstanding innings out of him every season.

It was a mistake-- I would now use him as an SP with PC 70/75, get about 170-180 innings.  It's not that Relaford, personally, would be that much more effective in that way; his ERA would be somewhat higher as an SP due to in-game fatigue, and his leverage was quite high in the SuA role.  It's that élite pitchers who CAN give you 5 innings every 5th day don't grow on trees, and when you get one you have to use him that way.  It's much easier to fill out a championship quality staff if you start him.

Yes, I made fun of you when I acquired Relaford.   You left 50-60 very good innings on the table each season.   That's 6 games worth of very good pitching.  And, FWIW, his ERA in Charleston, strictly starting, was pretty much the same as in Oakland.

Thanks guys

Relaford's ERA in OAK was 2.50; in CHR it was 2.99.  That's like saying that 5 inches is pretty much the same as 6 inches.

OK, I couldn't resist the cheap joke.  But Mike's actually correct; the truth is that CHR was in the DH league and OAK was in the NL, and OAK's probably a slightly better pitcher's park than CHR. So, adjusting for league and park, he really did have about the same ERA.

Wait...5 inches IS pretty much the same as 6, isn't it?  Don't tell me every woman I've ever been with has been lying to me...
