Moving on to D1 (Tarkanian) Topic

Well, after four years at North Carolina Central (DII), I am moving on to DI. I know what's needed, you need loyalty A+, reputation A+ and four bids in PIT or NT, probably need three NT, not sure. But it's four years for sure. Then, the offers open up.

For those interested, I am leaving NCC, A- program. It is only losing a senior PG, so it's a NT lock again next year. The SG going was a liability. NCC is a great place when you recruit. You got a lot of options coming down from D1.

I had offers ranging from D- to D+ (only one and I am a longshot...) So I am thinking I will be in a D program team.

What range of recruits can I expect to get at D? Thanks for your answers.

I've only recruited with D prestige twice.  The first time everyone ranked 51-99 at their position was a backup and the 2nd time kids at the same rankings were immediately recruitable.  I think it depends on how high your D prestige is....if it's the higher side of D you can get kids ranked 51-99 but if its not you gotta do some pulling down.

You won't be able to talk to anyone ranked top 50 at their position (though maybe you'll get lucky if they are within 70 miles of your campus).

Worst case, just send a few HVs (or CV if they're further away) to the kids ranked 51-99 the first cycle along with a phone call.  If they're backups you'll get your money back for the HVs.

It only costs $10 to find out......aim high (and local).

How much does location factor in as to whether a kid will drop down? Or are you just saying it's more economical to pull down that way?

In my limited D1 experience, drop downs don't really happen.  If a kid is on a D prestige school's radar, he's almost certainly on the radar of higher prestiged schools as well where he isn't a drop/pull down.

A few tips on moving up to DI. Don't worry about what a players rank is. Find the guys who have potential in ath, def, per & reb and build your program up that way. There are a lot of guys who are hidden gems that aren't ranked at all. If you can find a team with a slightly higher baseline prestige take it bc it can benefit you in a few seasons in recruiting. You can pull down higher players in DI but if the player is halfway decent by the time you attempted to pull them down a higher prestige team will be on him so I personally avoid it

Thanks everyone. I know it will be a struggle at first. Need to build that program and get something good out of it.

I need to be patient.
