No - as long as he does not become eligible before this season starts, you do not need to honor minutes or a guaranteed start. But if he becomes eligible, of course, this year, you have to honor them.

As already said, 2nd year is free and clear.  It is a "cheat code" to get non-quals.

The only risk is that they sometimes pass the SAT before they show up and then you have to meet the promises or have an impact.
