Does that also mean they can get a ridiculously high A+? That was my understanding at least maybe I'm wrong.
Good question -- not sure if that's ever been discussed.

I'm honestly not sure if an A+ on Off/Def IQ is the same as, say, an A+ in team prestige where it can continue growing into an "A++" or like free throw shooting where there are different percentages within the same letter grade, or if it is just a set efficiency multiplier once it reaches each grade level.

Anyone know?

I'm not sure about an upper limit cap, but I've come to the realization that Off/Def IQ might be underrated by many.  I'm starting to think that the value of an A+ is pretty high.

I can see the argument that it's a decimal behind the scenes, sort of like FT%, that is used as an efficiency multiplier.  I would doubt that there's something like a 105% or 110% in Motion, for example, but to my above point, I think the difference between 88% and 98% can be pretty big (B+ to A+, in theory at least)

i've had a player that finished as conf freshman oy, 2x conf poy, 4x conf def poy, nat'l freshman oy and 2x nat'l def poy. and ALL he had going for him was 85+ ath/spd/def w/ less than 45 bh/pass (i think one was like 38) and less than 40 per - and he is still rollins' all-time scorer w/ over 2200 pts and avg 17.2/game - with A+ fb/fcp. i realize ath/spd/def is important - but have to think that his A+ in fb/fcp factored in. my guards are re-writing the rollins scoring records - and the majority have pedestrian bh/pass/per #'s.<br />
believe me - off/def iq matter.

I totally agree on that.  I had a fb/fcp PG that at the beginning of his Sr year was:
ATH   57
SPD   86
LP      16
PER   20
BH     64
P        74
ST      77
FT      B+

Unfortunately I don't have his full card screenshotted on my laptop, I believe he was A/A+ IQ's.  His Sr year he scored something like 18ppg in 18mpg.  He wound up scoring 1653 pts in his career.  0-7 on 3's in his career starting 121 games.  Sure he has high speed and is a good FT shooter, but I have zero reason why that guy would score 1600 pts with a low-ish distro except for FB and IQ.  16 LP and 20 PER AS A SENIOR and he scored 1600+ pts.

I've convinced myself that IQ is a multiplier applied before the game to certain ratings probably stuff like lp, per, bh, pass, maybe rebounding, maybe defense, and maybe shot blocking.

Improvement of IQ I've always thought was a result of:
- high school gpa,
- and to a lesser extent, Work Ethic.

...but i don't have too many seasons under my belt.

Also, a question that has been raised a lot, but never really answered, is what is the diminishing return factor once you go over 25 minutes? If a team goes to say 40 minutes of practicing defense, how much of those extra 15 minutes get counted... 90%, 80%...? Maybe losing a few minutes but improving IQ faster may have some value...?

it is clear that adding minutes enhances improvement - dminishing returns doesnt mean no return on marginal minutes.  I go with between 20 and 30 minutes depending on the composition of my team and the potentials remaining in skill improvement.  I usually go with around 25

All things considered, an elite DI team likely will spend more time on IQ because it will have more players getting their core skills into the 90s, running out of potential than will the best lesser teams.  As you have few blues showing and more and more 90s, those mins help more in IQ

And IQ is very important all things being close to equal

I suppose this is also where someone points out that an unnamed user did an experiment where he practiced his sets 0 mins over 4 years and charted the results here in the forums.  I can't find the thread, maybe someone else can?

Although I still maintain that he would have also succeeded, perhaps more, by dedicating at least some minutes to iq.

robotdevil's IQ study thread

Unnamed user had a memorable name.
