about 10-15 of us go for the first weekend every year. We have 2-3 who haven't missed a trip since 1987. My first NCAA trip was "89".
Crum has been recruiting 3 of the last 4 years while there. I blame it 100% for my lack of a title in Crum D1 during that time frame....LOL.
(for Al)
In "1989" The Charlie Spoonour led SMSU Bears, played Seton Hall in the first round. Seton Hall -9 1/2. We (Mizzou State now) were behind the entire game.... never a threat to win, HOWEVER, with about 10 seconds left a big man for SH went in for and exclamation point dunk to end the game on us (SH up 11 points). He jammed the ball into the back of the iron..... it bounced all the way out to the top of the circle where one of our little guards grabbed it.... dribbled the length of the floor and laid in an uncontested layup at the buzzer to cut the final score to 9 points. 100 Big East fans fell into their seats in disgust and 6 of us (probably the only SMSU fans in all of Vegas back then), jumped for joy. I have been hooked on "Vegas for March Madness" ever since.
In those days we stayed at the Rivera on what was know as the "Spree Package"...LOL. If you logged 8 hours of play during your stay your room, food, and 4 shows were free, of course the only show we went to was a horrible strip show called "Crazy Girls"....... Good Times!
