Playing a player out of position? Topic

Hey I am relatively new to the game, but I had a question on if there was a penalty for playing a player in a position that is not his Primary or Secondary Position based on his ratings... for example if you had a SS who had great fielding ratings can you play him in the OF even though thats not a listed position for him?

Is there a defense boost for playing the primary position vs secondary vs not listed?

Thanks in advance

No but you can change their positions to suit your needs.

Edit roster, right click position, set desired spots.

The only real penalty I know of is playing a lefty in the IF anywhere but 1B.  They'll get a lot of (-) no matter their ratings.

I'd recommend checking all your BL players.   A guy set at SS when he was 26 might have LF ratings at 33.   And, if you use SIMMY recs for rest/D-sub, SIMMY will keep putting him at SS.

At the beginning of the season, when promoting players and setting rosters at all levels, I also check and set positions for every player in my system. Might be overdoing it a little, but I think it helps Simmy do his job.

I got a question on this. Does anyone ever look at the ratio of Plus plays at any one position versus innings played at that position?

I just look at the actual value against rec'd.  The guys above rec have pluses (typically) and the ones below have (-).  I only kind of value defense outside of SS/CF, so I'm probably not a good person to ask.  I find it's easier to predict offensive and pitching stats than defensive ones.

From what I understand you can play anyone in RF no matter their defense although expect a good amount of minus plays. My player Furgy from last season plays RF... 0 errors 22 minu s plays, 0 plus plays. So its a win lose situation but if your RF is a really good hitter and a poor defender it may not be a bad idea to play him in RF.
