Why do so few people here join theme leagues? Everyone complains about the open leagues, but that's what almost everyone plays. I have some ideas for theme leagues, but I figure why bother, nobody will join. One of the reasons for theme leagues is to be able to use players that I wouldn't usually use.

Idea #1)  The Dr. Pepper league: Every player must be $10 million, $2 million or $4 million. (Dr. Pepper had a slogan, at 10, 2 and 4, you always want more.) Place the salary cap so where you have to decide whether to have 2 or 3 $10 million dollar players.

Idea #2)  The complete countdown league. This takes the recently popular countdown league one step further. Start at $10 million instead of $9 million so we have a chance at those $10 million players we rarely use.Not so long ago countdown leagues were popular and filled up fairly quickly and then I quit seeing them at all.

Idea #3)  You have a choice between 5 $9 million players and 5 $1 million players, or 5 $8 million players and 5 $2 million players, or 5 $7 million players and 5 $3 million players, or 5 $6 million players and 5 $4 million players, or 10 $5 million players. The last two players would just use up the remainder of the salary cap and fetch drinks for your starters. The nice thing about this is that you could run it multiple times and it could stay fresh because you could experiment with the different dollar combinations.

Anyhow, I would like to play some theme leagues, but if only 17 people remain at this site it makes it difficult.

I like the Dr. Pepper league idea.  Maybe you should post it and see what happens.

Theme leagues are great.  I encourage you to join them.  If you never try to start one, it's guaranteed to not get filled.  The two draft leagues, ODL & Funk52, have been around for around a decade (I've been here for 7+ years and they were both in their 20th-ish edition when I started), and are some of if not the fiercest competition you'll find.

I don't do theme leagues anymore for personal reasons.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

At this rate I could make a league and slymonium and I could each play 12 teams.

If WIS would implement variable league sizes that we've been asking for for YEARS, more leagues would fill

I like all 3 ideas, and have 2 teams wanting jobs...just saying :)

Apparently WIS doesn't want the extra revenue this would generate, or the added Goodwill this would create with NBA SIM owners. For years now, they have treated the NBA SIM like it's anthrax, and I don't see that changing anytime. Still firmly believe that those of us hang-on are messing with their plan to eliminate the game totally.

As soon as I get a chance I'm going to start one of these leagues. I'm also going to try to drum up some interest in the basketball SIM over on the baseball side. There are a lot more players over there and if we could get a few interested in the basketball it would help. Theme leagues actually fill in baseball world. Imagine that! Do you think WIS would consider giving a free basketball team to baseball users? Even if only 10% of them went on to buy a team it would be good business for them.

That's the irony of the WifS basketball.  If all the owners/customers leave it wouldn't notice or care.
But that makes sense if the computer is the only thing running the game then it can't change anything
or can it?
Obvious Oblivious Oblivion or in the immortal words of Pink Floyd "Is there anybody out there?"
"Wish you were here!"
