Questions about press/fastbreak teams Topic

I just recently took over a fastbreak/press team and have a few questions about how things work.

1- How much does adjusting positioning affect a press team's defense? I adjust a lot with my other zone team, but am curious what effect it has on press defense. Is it the same idea with a press, or does it have less of an effect?

2- What is the best way to limit fouls? I have given up a huge amount of free throws so far and am wondering if that is just a price of the press, or simply related to defensive rating, positioning, and IQ.

3- Three point distribution? Is this the same as with other offenses? Is the fastbreak offense more effective with less threes than other offenses with the same caliber players?

Thanks in advance. Here is my team for reference. www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx

I think FB gives your 3 point shooters more oppertunities to do well it might not be the most efficient compared to the Flex, but it certainly is very very good for 3 point shooters, and I might be a little 3 happy when I have good PER players, but I'd have Fitz at +2 chucking 3's all day Lee at +1 to start and if he's hitting 43% or better move him to plus 2.  Alcott I'd have at either +1 with a lower distro or at 0 with a bit higher.  With how your team is at a disadvantage in almost every category besides PER I'd be aiming for 30ish+ 3PA/gm to make up for how many FT you give up and the fact that you really only have 1 good defensive guy so everyone should shoot pretty well against you.

Granted the team is not "great" probably below avg or just bad overall which isn't your fault you didn't recuit them.

As reguards to 2 you won't really be able to limit fouls, your team is just not athletic or good at defense, besides like 2 guys.  Combined with FB/Press you will foul an absurd amount.  Running -3,-4,-5 will mean you'll probably foul more too as your packing inside.

Your team has great stamina and you could try to get fouled by running uptempo to even the fouls for each side.

Although you should wait for a coach whose actually good to come give advice.

Yes 3 pointers in fast can be great. If you set them high they can score a ton real quick. ST and depth is key to FB/FCP.
As far as fouls, ath, def, and IQ are the key.
Positioning works like any other def except when I run fcp I will never go more than -3 because it does draw more fouls.
Another key is high ft ratings. Great bh and sp guys with high ft do great in fb.
Hope that helps little.
I'd have lee and fitz +2, Johnson and Jackson high distro -2. With that def I'd play slowdown

I just recently took over a fastbreak/press team and have a few questions about how things work.

1- How much does adjusting positioning affect a press team's defense?  Uh...some.  The question really is: how much does it affect the opponent's offense.   The answer is that you certainly want to adjust depending on your opponent, but don't expect miracles.  I adjust a lot with my other zone team, but am curious what effect it has on press defense. Is it the same idea with a press, or does it have less of an effect?  Yes, but nothing like switching from 2-3 to 3-2.

2- What is the best way to limit fouls?  Play slowdown and +, but the real answer is to recruit better, more athletic defenders.  I have given up a huge amount of free throws so far and am wondering if that is just a price of the press, or simply related to defensive rating, positioning, and IQ.  The key with press defense is to be better at ATH & STAM (& DEF & SPD) and take advantage of that.  If you are worse than your opponent in those categories, then you are going to have games in which your team fouls like mad.  That's just how it is.

3- Three point distribution? Is this the same as with other offenses? Is the fastbreak offense more effective with less threes than other offenses with the same caliber players?  I'm confused by this question.  The advantage FB has is that it needs less LP than other offenses to generate interior offense.   Soooo...feel free to trade-out LP for other categories, but make sure the scorers that go to the hoop can shoot FTs.  A ton of coaches, regardless of O system, like guards that drive to the hoop.  They really work well if they can shoot charity shots.

Thanks in advance.
