PE+LP and 3 pt settings Topic

For example, if I have a PF or C that has a 60 PE and 99 LP rating. Assuming I use the 60 perimeter rating for three point shooting purposes, will the strong low post presence add to his three point shooting efficiency? In other words, would he shoot better from beyond the arc because of his 99 low post rating?

Admin stated a while back that's it's better to have, for instance, a 70PE/70LP guy rather than a 20PE/90LP guy or something to that effect. However, it didn't go into great detail.

I don't think so.....or if it does it's very small.   I DO THINK that the 60 PER helps with 2 point baskets (the mythical mid range jumper that admin refers to on occasion) but I don't think LP effects the 3FGA in the scoring equation.

It's not a myth, brah...my cousin saw it one time real late at night on the side of the interstate on his way home.

I'm pretty sure LP does affect 3FGA.  The higher the LP, the fewer FGA you're going to be able to get out of the player.  There's a coach in a conference I'm in who was pulling his hair out trying to get his ~90 per to shoot threes, and the player just would not shoot more than 40% of his shots for threes.  Another player on the team would just shoot them all day.  Both players in the backcourt.  The difference between them?  Player A had an LP of 60 or so and player B had no LP at all.

I know, sample size = 1 matched set, but it was pretty convincing given the numbers of shots and threes involved.

The LP/PER rating ratio affects the players ratio of FG/3FG attempts in the game as does position, setting and defensive positioning......however I don't think LP effects if the 3FGA goes in.

I'm with you.  The OP was question about the efficiency.  I don't think a two guys with the exact same ratings and IQs are going to shoot better because one guy's LP is 90 and the other is 10.

Okay, I get it.  I was overly focused on and misunderstanding TJ's FGA comment (FG% is probably more accurate).

If that's true, I'm guessing there is no logical reason for a power forward or center to take any three point shots? Unless he has an elite perimeter rating, comparable to some guards?

sure there is!....he can hit them!.....and since they are usually covered by a slower defender they can hit them frequently.....I've only had one post player average more than 2 3FGA a game but he shot like 38%....I think he was 50 spd and 60 per at D2.....it can be done

That's the guy llama is talking about earlier. I wish there were an option to disable a guy's low post. He actually shot about 60% of his shots from three. However, if you didn't want him to shoot threes just play a plus defense then he will only shoot about 40% from deep. Yes it was very frustrating.

I have a guy on my roster this season that can top off at 100 per and 68 lp. Still a small sample, but we'll see what happens
