Conventional wisdom in the NBA says you need to build your team around a superstar in order to win an NBA title? Is that true here too, or can you win a league without one?

depends on what you classify as a superstar.  There are many guys who are sim studs (Chauncey Billups, Dennis Rodman, Jason Kidd all immediately come to mind) that I wouldn't classify as as superstar by any means.

I have a team in the open league that doesn't have a single all star nor mvp candidate because most of my 'star players' are half seasons so no one plays enough minutes to qualify - does that count?

If you have two "superstars" sharing one position wouldn't that count? The question came after I read an article about the Atlanta Hawks. Can they win with a system instead of a superstar? It seems to me that WIS assumes that high usage guys shot what they shot while being double teamed, so if you play them and they don't get double teamed they will shoot better here than in real life. The lower usage (non-superstar) players will just shoot what they shot, unless you start getting into the super assist teams, but that's another question entirely.

So what are you considering a super star again?  High usage guy?  What do you consider high usage?  I can take a team full of 20-25% usage guys and win it all, but some of those guys are all-stars and potential hall of famers (most of Barkley's best seasons are 24-26%, and he was a bonafide super star).  Yes, I can win without one 30%+ usage guy (majority of my rings are without one), but high usage isn't really the only defining aspect of a superstar.

No, you can't win if you don't have anybody over 17.5% usage on your squad, that's for sure.

Also, about your assumption regarding double teams:  no.

That answers the question. I wanted to know if you need a LeBron or Jordan or some other guy like that to build around or if you can win with a bunch of good players whose usage is around 22%.
