bad hitting coach paired with best prospect Topic

My best hitting prospect is in AAA and I got shafted with no hitting coaches available at that level so I'm stuck with a 49 hitting rating for a coach at that level.  Should I demote my best prospect to AA (63 hitting rating) during spring training?  I could also call him up to the majors, but I would strongly prefer to postpone his arbitration date by one more year.  He's 21.  What would you guys do?

4th year pro?

63 at AA isn't that great, either. Definitely not worth demoting him.

Is this guy ready to play in the Majors? If you promote him, is he talented enough to play every day (better than the alternative at that position)? If so, I'd call him up. If you're really worried about his eventual arbitration cost, you can always wait 20 games to call him up.

Or simply send him down for 20 days at the start of next season. It doesn't matter when he spends those 20 days in the minors, just so long as he does it some season before he hits arb.

He's starting his 4th year, so 3 full years experience. He plays 1b/LF and I already have good players at those positions so I would need to make a trade to open a spot for him in the majors. I'm really on the fence what to do. I like army's idea if I had a roster spot readily available 6.

Curt Meacham

Looks ready to play LF IMO.

I see Brant Gerut at 1B

But who's taking up the LF spot

He'll be brutal in LF.

Agree about LF. But keeping him in AAA all season with a 49 HC would be brutal to his development, and it would be nuts to keep him down until Gerut's contract is done in 4 seasons. Trade one, preferably Gerut. You've got 2 stud 1B/DH players in a league with no DH.

I'd have a tough time trading 27 y/o Gerut to make room for Meacham.   CM isn't going to produce the same numbers.

I'm playing Tarrik Smith in LF.  My plan was to play Smith in RF next season and Meacham in LF.  I can live with Meacham's awful defense in LF I think because I'm hoping to get an OBP in the .380 range batting in the 2-hole right in front of Gerut.  Alternatively, I really need a 3B or CF, so I could trade Meacham for a player who I can slot in at one of those positions, but I REALLY like Meacham's bat so I'm torn.  Thanks for your help so far, any other ideas/advice?

Well who is in RF now?

Mire Perez. Could probably move him, maybe.

I'd much rather move Midre Perez than Gerut or Smith.

I'd call up Meachum and start him in RF instead of Perez. Meachum will be a liability at any OF position but RF gets FAR less chances than LF, so he will hurt you much less in RF.

Having a bench bat like Perez is super, plus when Meachum needs rest (only 79 DUR) Perez can play and you don't lose a bit of offense.

Lastly it also will mean that when Perez is up for his 2nd Arb case his demands will be MUCH lower than they would have been, because his playing time will have been greatly reduced.

In the meantime you could try to trade him, and you could hold out for a strong offer since you aren't really desperate to move him...
