Balls and Strikes Topic

OK, I admit I'm watching more baseball this season as I've been homebound a lot, but does it seem to anyone else that there are a lot more arguments over balls and strikes this year?  It seems like in well over half the games I watch a player, manager, or both get the heave-ho for arguing the strike zone.

I don't think I've observed anything out of the ordinary...

I agree pinot, but I also think the strike zone is a bit more "erratic" this year.

Adrian Gonzalez got tossed in the Dodger game last night for arguing balls and strikes, something like his third ejection ever.  He's known for having a great eye for the zone.  If he has problems maybe there is a bigger issue.

Since they use instant replay anyway, why not use K-Zone for balls and strikes?  The call is instantaneous and there is no margin for error.

Definitely. The umpires have different strike zones this year. One of the worst strike zones I've seen is Angel Hernandez's. People talk about shortening the strike zone to get more offense. It's because the strike zones vary so much more than I've seen in the past that I see a lot more people striking out looking. I don't know if I explained my point of view properly, it makes sense in my head. Just that strike zones always vary from umpire to umpire but like now strike zones vary so much and they're so inconsistent, hitters have to be very aggressive or they'll get a massive strike zone with two strikes. If you watched that no hitter by the Giants rookie. That guy was throwing back door two seamers to righties in the left handed batters box and the umpire was calling it a strike

The complaint I'm hearing is that there is inconsistency within a game.  Players don't have an issue with umpires having differing zones, as long as the zone stays consistent from inning to inning.  Is the strike zone wide today?  Cool, just call it the same in the 9th as you do in the 1st.

And slotterhodge, I'm all in favor of using K-Zone for calling balls and strikes.

has to do with technology, at the numbers on the black is now a ticket, has not been since the mid 70's

patient walk draggers aren't taking this well

Was at the Dodger game last night, sat behind the plate.  The strike zone was a joke; no consistency from batter to batter.  Lots of complaining, although nobody got tossed.

Angel Pagan got thrown out with a 1-2 count the other day.  Maybe since there are less things to argue about due to instant replay, they still feel the need to argue about something to get frustration out.
