DH Type - Better to play at 1B or RF? Topic

I plan to rotate a DH type in for offense on my AL team. Catcher like ratings but too poor of a PC to play there.

Would it be better to play this player at 1B or RF?

Thoughts?

Most catchers would be a disaster at 1B but useful in RF with enough bat. 1B defense will affect your entire infield; RF will only affect balls hit to RF, and with a good arm some of the errors can be overcome with + throws.

RF.   Failed C at 1B are the worst option.   You'd be better off playing him at 3B than 1B.

It would be better to play him at DH if you have an AL team. Unless the DH slot is already occupied by a great slugger, in which case you're probably not hurting for another bat in the lineup.

I think a lot of people have skimmed Mike's Rightfielder post and now they think that they can play any catcher reject in RF. Correct me if I'm wrong, Mike, but my understanding is that it's only a good idea to play a catcher in RF if he has a strong arm, he is an excellent (not merely decent) hitter, and you're in the NL, and thus unable to carry a DH.

I've seen a ton of players in my worlds who commit 15-20 minus plays in RF and hit .260. That isn't benefitting your team when you do that.

The entire game is a +/- game.   The C/RF needs to have at least 60/60 arm ratings(higher is better, lower creates more bad plays) and needs to have the bat to carry the 30ish negative plays/errors he'd make if he played 1458 innings.   That 30ish is based on an "average" RF.   You have to determine if your crappy fielding RF hits better enough than the other average RF option you're considering.   The entire experiment was for Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Kevin Ryu.   He's carried the proper bat.   But, if you check his stats, he caught in S35 because I had Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Reginald Gwynn in RF.   IOW, my option was a .860 OPS average RF or a .920 OPS C turned RF.   I chose the average RF who wouldn't produce all the terrible plays.
