Why am I still listed as "Out"? Topic

I am in Smith World and have a question. When I look at the Postseason Projections I am currently listed as out, which is fine...but I see teams with much higher RPI than me listed as bubble teams.

I have an RPI of 66 and a SOS of 55, yet I see a team with an RPI of 107 and a SOS of 247 listed as bubble.

I rarely complain or post here, but what gives? Should I just start scheduling easier and rack up the wins?

The projection report isn't based on RPI.  RPI is a calculation based on SOS and team record.  Tournament seeds factor in who you beat.  So to make the tournament you need to beat good teams not just win games.  I looked at your team, and you have 0 quality wins.  The best RPI you have beaten is 148, that's the reason you aren't making the tournament.  I don't know which teams you are refering to ahead of you on the list, but see how many top 100 RPI teams they beat, that will be the difference.
A lot of this game in terms of seeding and making the tournament even when your team isn't great is knowing who to schedule that.  It's important to learn.

RPI is only part of the projection formula.  They like us to win vs. good opponents. If you play tough teams and lose, it doesn't help you much. If you beat up on bad teams, it also doesn't help.  You should play the toughest teams that you can defeat.

Thanks for the response, the team I was referring to was UA, Monticello....and they do have 1 win against a top 100 RPI team so maybe you are right. Im not expecting to make the tournament to be honest, I just found it weird why I wasnt even on the bubble but they were.

Thanks for the response, will definitely start planning better on this...

further background - it used to be - until a couple years ago - that rpi was the dominant tool for getting into the NT.   The projection report methodology changed that - probably for the best.

Prior to the change, one could "game" the rpi in ways that were arguably not realistic or reflective of team strength with careful scheduling.  It is still the case that good scheduling - smart scheduling - can help you get to the Dance, but it is more complex than an rpi based calculation.

Thanks mamxet, I guess that is why I was confused as I just recently got back into HD and I remember it was more based on rpi.

Absolutely

And one should keep in mind, a good rpi is NOT a bad thing.  It just isnt the ONLY thing or the predominant thing.  Optimum scheduling is a bit difference in projection report regime - and I think better as a game and in terms of realism.
