Unlike players, I NEVER pay attention to who my coaches are, their history, etc. All I do is look at their ratings. Also, I generally just find coach hiring a bit tedious. So here are a few ideas to change that. I apologize in advance if these ideas have been shared before.
- Instead of hiring several coaches for each level, you only hire one MANAGER for each level. Each manager has his own staff of coaches that automatically come with him if you hire that manager. When you look at the coach Hiring screen, it shows the combined ratings for each manager/staff. When you open up a manager profile screen, you get to see his coaching staff and their specific ratings.
- Managers are hired like FAs (both resigning your own FAs and open market), including multi-year contracts for ML managers. The better ones (the ones with better ratings and coaching staff) demand more money/years. Multi-year deals work like a T option every year, so every off-season you get the option to "fire" your manager if you want (with a buyout).
One of the goals of this idea is to make coaches more recognizable and sought after. Just like in RL, if a great manager was out of work, some team would spend a lot to hire him. Plus, owners might get more attached to their managers... just like we do with our favorite players.
Also, this would hopefully both stream-line the coach hiring process while also adding a layer of strategy (Do I develop a ML manager from my minors to save $$$, or do I go for an available star manager on the FA market? Do I sign that manager with a great PC but maybe lower HC, or go for a more well rounded manager/staff? Do I resign my great, vet ML manager to an expensive long term deal or look for a cheap, young, room-to-grow inexperienced manager on the coach FA market, etc.).
What do you think? Would this idea help us to get more attached to our managers? Would it spice up coach hiring at all? What problems do you see?
