Why is it so hard to have a double double guy? Topic

Why are there so few guys (at all levels really) that don't wind up averaging a double double for the year?  I know I've had guys with good ATH for the level and 99 REB that wind up averaging out around 7-8 rebounds/game.  I understand it's driven by opportunity, but you'd think less Off rebounds would be offset by better defense (team wise) and lead to more defensive rebounds.  Thoughts?

On other statistical notes, also super hard to get a guy to double digit assists in a game (although I've done it) and I don't think I've ever seen a triple double in a game.

I'm sure most of it is driven by minutes played, competition, etc, but I would think you'd see some more of certain statistical things in the game.

I'm sure others will present examples as well but here's a guy on my buddy's team that (ALMOST) did it 2 seasons ago

Don't remember his ratings exactly but I think they were very good but not off the charts. Maybe 60Ath and 90 Reb?

Oh absolutely, if you search the stats across levels there are always a handful every year, but the majority of them seem to be SIMs.

couple of examples in Rupp (22 games in)
D2 center, 53 ATH, 98 REB, A in the Zone
D2 center, 36 !!! ATH, 97 REB, A- in the Zone
D3 center, 5 !!! ATH, 89 REB, A- in the zone
D3 center, 48 ATH, 94 REB, A- in M2M

Granted, all sims, all playing decent minutes (>25), but there's some sucky ratings there.  You'd think well recruited guys with proper cores for this would be more successful.

Had a guy in Phelan D3 at Menlo season 80 come close. William Bobadilla: 22.3 Min, .578 FG%, 3.3 OReb, 9.4 Reb, 13.3 Pts  Ratings: 81 Ath, 21 Spd, 80 Reb, 84 Def, 58 SB, 64 LP, 2 Per, 25 BH, 2 Pa, 83 Sta, 72 WE He probably would have made it, but I was bringing him off the bench for most of the season because I had promised a start to another low post player. The main reason I recruited him was because I liked his name.

The only one I can remember I did it with recently was Stanley Nation in the Phelan D3 SUCC challenge thing we started.  But I leveraged the crap out of playing him the most minutes I could and we were a crappy team, so lots of opportunity for rebounds.  Simmy did avg double double with him the season prior.

39 ATH, 100 REB, 99 LP, 90 STA.  Wound up playing just over 30 mpg, 19.1 and 10.6.  But he's the only guy I ever actively tired to finagle settings to keep a double double for.

it is really hard, here's a few of my closest:

Herbert Marks came close two seasons with a 15.3 pts/8.6 reb jr year and 14.9 pts/8.9 reb year against the 6th best sos.  Had 65 ath 97 reb 68 lp 33 per 78 stamina

That sr year also came close with Steve Chaney who had 20 pts/8.7 reb a game, maybe playing them both together hurt the reb? Played SF with 72 ath 44 spd 76 reb 74 lp and 89 sta.

A bit back in Knight I had a 10.0 pts and 7.2 ast pg with ratings of 73 ath 72 spd 76 per 81 bh 83 pas 96 stam against the #1 sos

Maybe all 3 of those guys could've done it against easier schedules, but it seems really hard to have double doubles at D3

it is possible though  Robert Gill, He was a very good player but not really a world beater.  What made it possible for him to do it was his stamina.  Also the guys that took over the team after I left didnt really know what they were doing.  I'm not sure they even recruited any other bigs.  I recruited the player, but I left the team after his sophomore year.

I did it (barely) with this guy as a senior: Dennis Vance, playing only 26 mins a game.

However, two advantages for him - he played center in a 2-3 zone with good team defense and the rest of the team as full of mediocre rebounders.

This guy will do it with room to spare this season. 89 stamina and 31 minutes / game really helps. But more significant is the fact that rest of my team is not great and I have have a terrible SOS.
