In a recruiting battle ... I'm a C prestige going up against another DII with an A prestige ... however, I have almost an 1100 mile distance advantage. Press on or back out?

You're looking at this battle in a vacuum, and missing all the relevant information.
 How many scholarships do each of you have, and does either have a significant advantage of bonus money?  Is the player in question that good that you can't find a replacement?  
I'd assume with that kind of distance advantage and equal money, unless the other coach doesn't know what he's doing or is willing to take walk ons, that you can probably win it.  But I don't have all the info.

All good questions, dan ... my opponent has 3 scholarships left and has 3 guys considering him. I have 5 open scholarships. By my calculation, I received about $900 more in bonus money. I think the guy will be really good ... the other options that I am considering are clearly a notch or two below. Thanks for your input.

assuming you are 360 miles or nearer to the recruit, you have a big advantage (which appears to be the case).  that said, sometimes coaches do illogical moves and can actually win the battle.  he appears to be in no other battles so if he really likes the guy he could make it hurt to get him, even though it appears you could win ultimately no matter how much he spends.

FWIW, I'd be careful posting stuff like this while recruiting is active.  Best to get advice from a mentor in site mail.  I figured out exactly what player are talking about, so the other coach can too.

prestige doesn't seem to be as big a factor at D2.

Yeah, thanks Brian ... I was worried about that too. But I figured any advice I get here could help me if I run into this situation again in the future.
