If I claim a player after the deadline... Topic

.....am I obligated to try to trade for them?

Because I claimed a player after the deadline and he was automatically revoked.  Ok, no big deal.  I wanted him for free for depth on the off chance he wasn't going to be automatically revoked but he's not worth trading assets for in my opinion.  I told the other owner sorry, but that I wasn't interested in trading for him.  His response to me was:

"It is that time of the year when lots of folks put players on revocable waivers for roster flexibility later.  If you have no intent to pursue the player please don't block my roster moves."

I basically told him to **** off as i'm trying to improve my team with free waiver claims on the off chance the player wasn't on revocable waivers.  He then said by claiming players after the deadline I will lose friends on WIS.

I believe his request was ridiculous and a borderline collusion request.  I am trying to improve my franchise in any way that I can...and that includes waiver claims.  Why should I stop making waiver claims and trying to improve my team so HE can slide players through waivers and improve his team instead?  We're competing against each other and our interests don't align. Sorry his moves didn't work out for him, but i'm trying to improv my team too....ya know?

You did nothing wrong.

Who has friends on WIS?

You can block roster moves on purpose, too, you know.  F him.

Yeah, that's one of the things I told him as well.  He doesn't get it though.  He thinks we should all play nice and I should avoid claiming players on waivers I'm not willing to give up assets for so he doesn't "lose a possible roster move".

What is this?  4th grade?  We're competing against each other, we aren't teammates.

I get annoyed when people claim my roster expansion guys when Im trying to send them back to AAA after the regular season ends.  Especially when they say "I wanted him for free bro, I wont give anyone up for him"  Because then I cant send the guy down and Im stuck with him making 327k next season.

Your roster expansion guys who were out of options and that you're kind of gaming the system on anyhow if you're successful?

No one forced you to bring those players up.  You brought them up to the majors to help the team and knowing full well that they would have to clear waivers to be sent back down.  That's part of the restrictions of the game....not sure what there is to be annoyed about?  That's a decision that YOU need to make prior to bringing the player up....."is the possible increased salary next season worth it to bring this player up now and help the team?"  For some players it's worth it, for some it isn't.  That's just a strategical decision that needs to be made.

The waiver wire is a tool available that users can use to improve their team/franchise/depth/etc.  Why is it annoying when users are trying to do just that?

Anybody on the waiver wire is fair game for claiming, for any reason at all.

I've played this game for 80 seasons and i'm just now realizing that there are people out there who believe they are entitled to special treatment when it comes to the waiver wire.

MikeT23 Warriors in Grass Skirts 9/10/2015 9:39 AM Travis Bolton can be had cheap. I called him up by accident(no options/claimed) and I don't like to carry low inning RP during the regular season. As a DITR, he is still getting ratings bumps. 1 pt here and there but bumps nonetheless.

People are entitled to believe whatever they want. They are often wrong.

Anyone on waivers is fair game to be claimed for whatever reason the claiming team has. Blocking, hoping for a free upgrade, or making yourself the only team to whom he can be traded. The only wrong belief here is thinking that the other 31 owners are obligated to relieve one of the risk inherent with waivers.

I run everyone on my 40 thru waivers.   My minor leaguers with no options either clear or don't get called up if I don't intend to carry them on the BL team the following season.   Bolton didn't clear, I missed it and called him up anyway.   Now I'll either deal him, use him until I can't work around his inning limitations or, if I can't do either, waive him and let him go.

I had the same thing happen. I thought it was ridiculous because if you wanted to move him earlier without restrictions, you should have.  I intentionally try to claim as many people as possible because that's the point of waivers, I feel.  F anybody who gets upset at this.

if you don't want anyone claiming a player, don't put them on waivers. An owner can try to trade the before the transaction deadline to anyone.
