im with theonlyis on this one... when you have a brutal conference, with 4 of the top 10 teams, it would be ridiculous to give 1 of them a 1 seed and the other 3 9-10 seeds. it would basically make being a 1 seed a punishment - you end up facing one of the best teams in the country in round 2. far better to be a 2-4 and snag a far weaker at large opponent up front and then some mediocre BS mid major in the sweet 16.
for a seeded tournament to make any sense, it has to be seeded in some semblance of priority order. i don't think it would be insane to say, cap an auto bid at a 14 seed minimum, if you are trying to reward those incredibly awful teams who already got a major reward in even showing up for the NT, where they would have a snowballs chance in hell at making it in a real conference. but i do think it would be insane to say those guys have to be in the top 32.
