Defensive Positioning Topic

How in-depth is the affect of defensive positioning on the overall gameplan? I can see how it affects perimeter shooting and low post presence, but can it affect things like rebounding? For example, can a team with a rebounding deficiency set their positioning as a negative value to help offset the weakness?

yes rebounding is affected by defensive position a good deal obv the more + you play the more it hurts and the more - you play the more it benefits, not sure exactly how much it would help say -5 50 reb pf/c.  But yes running more negative defenses can help rebounding.

Also  - defenses also affect fouling, the more - you run the more often you would foul(more profound in press than man/zone I believe)

So if the negative defense helps rebounding also, what additional benefit does the positive defensive positioning have?

I'm just guessing since it's new information to me, but I could see a bump in backcourt steals being the case there.

Edit: HD's players guide (which would have answered my original question, oops) also notes that a + positioning also tends to lead to fewer fouls.
