choosing your battles Topic

I have read the advice in the past to pay attention to what other battles, if any, your recruiting rival is in.    How do I tell?  opening up every single recruit being considered seems untenable.

basically what you just said, you open the oppoenents recruiting tab and click on each of his recruits and see if their any other schools on them.  Not that hard or long at most they have 6/7 prospects considering them.  Shouldn't take you more than 2-3 minutes to look at 6 recruits

wow~!!!   it's amazing how something so simple and useful could be right in front of you.   I had no idea that tab was there.   Thank you

Also check his news tab. You can see if he cut anyone, which would mean he doesn't have as much money as his openings indicate.

and if you want to learn about carryover you can always check the previous year's roster and see if the team had any walk ons

If there are fewer than 2 SO players listed and no FR, always check to make sure he didn't have 100 percent carryover from the previous year!

I didn't even think about that. I always tried to look at every team before the NBA draft when walk-ons disappear to see if there was $0 carry over, or if to could be more.

That tab is also useful to simply see if he has more recruits interested than he has scholarships.

Last recruiting cycle, I was battling for a juco PG (who ended up as my leading scorer and a 1st team all-conference player). The other guy who was on him had 6 schollies and 10 guys considering him, with 4-5 guys considering only his school.  I knew how this story would play out -- his scholarships would fill up before my recruit made a decision (a guy who is considering multiple schools will rarely sign in the first one or two signing cycles).  I didn't need to throw that much more money at the player  (I'd toss a call or two his way) in order to win the battle.  Sure enough, the other guy signed his six players, the recruit stopped considering him and within two cycles, he signed with me.  And I was able to spend the money that I would have spent on a HV/CV for him on other players.

all of above is good advice

of course, you also want to consider whether there is someone available who you dont need to fight for who is as good or almost as good as the possible battle.  Dont let yourself get overly invested in the guy as "yours"

of course, this isn't 100% accurate reliable because ineligibles may have gone juco, in which case, the carryover still applies. but once once you figure out how many scholarships your opponent has (and how much carryover), more or less, you can look at the team history for everyone in the conference to calculate the bonus money he's working with.

I'm a little stuck on one recruit. I'm an A+ and he was considering a C- sim. Sent a HV and a CV and not even on the considered list! He just started considering my C conference mate.... 900 miles away I should probably just move on.

It depends on how much you want the recruit.  That is the way to tell.

I'm assuming this is for pacific team, which is DIII.  Prestige means next to nothing at DIII especially after you know that the player will talk to/consider a lower prestige team.
