Alpha League Needs a Replacement Topic

We are a league that just began and that progresses 2 seasons at a time. We started with the 1885/86 seasons and will be soon starting to draft for the 1887/88 season. The league roster pool is made up from players from 1887 and 1888. Players with a season in both years can only appear in the league once. The owner has the option to use the season of his choice.

Example, the available team has 3B Denny Lyons on it. As the new owner, you have the option to use either his 1887 or 1888 season. While is 1888 season is good, you'd obviously want to use his 1887 season where he hit 367 with a 421 obp and 523 slg % with 759 PA's. After this season is over, then you'd have to choose between his 1889 and 1890 season.

The purpose for progressing 2 years at a time are 2 fold.....#1-there aren't enough PA's and IP's to progress 1 year at a time without introducing a different time era into the pool or using a ton of AAA players (or losing exclusivity of players). By using two seasons at a time, we have more total IP/PA's to add to the player pool. The #2 reason is to speed up the progression. This set-up will allow us to get through history twice as fast and experience many more players over a given amount of time.

It will also help an owner in a rebuilding project (which is what this team will be) retool much faster, as 2 crops of rookies/season will be added to the player pool. Example, we will average 4 real life HOF's per draft between now and the "modern era" which begins in 1901. The likes of Cy Young, Hugh Duffy, Nap Lajoie, Honus Wagner, Billy Hamilton, Rube Waddell, Amos Rusie, Christy Mathewson etc will all be available before 1901.

This team has a nice core group of offensive players in Dan Brouthers, Denny Lyons, and Jack Clements along with several complements who will help the team. There are also almost 1000 IP's available in the upcoming season of sub 1.2 whip and about 1340 IP of sub 1.35 whip so innings won't be a problem next year either.

The team had an awful record but the current owner went MIA a while back and nobody is managing his lineup/pitching staff. A lot of starters who have less than 100% stamina before the game even starts. You'll also get the first pick of the draft with 5 future HOF's in the pool (Jake Beckley, Hugh Duffy, Connie Mack, Ed Delahanty, and Billy Hamilton).

I will post the entire roster asap once I go through the potential keepers and those that retire in our current (1885/86 season) with no future seasons available. Thanks and please post your interest on this thread and/or any questions you might have.

nea...

I am not interested in the team but I would suggest that you post the MIA owner in the Progressive Wall of Shame thread. Anyone who signs up for a progressive and can't even make it one season needs to be listed.

bhead408......no...didn't we battle this out before...you don't even know whether or not a medical issue or personal issue was involved..because we are annonamous I think some of you guys forget we are people and then you guys are the ones that belong on the wall of shame. and who are you to place a moral obligation on someone's head to stay in a league. with petty vilification to follow...I think it is a disgrace for such attitudes to be around us.
You don't have to smear a guy, but as a commish it is helpful to know if an owner you are considering has a history of bailing on progressive leagues. If it is a rare occurrence, then give them the benefit of the doubt. If they regularly sign up for prog leagues then bail without notice, then sharing their name with other commissioners as a red flag owner is fair. If they created trouble while they were there.....then at that point all bets are off, at least in my book.
