Best Catchers Caught Stealing Percentage? Topic

Hello,

I'm SURE this is already a topic, but I couldn't find it and I also wanted an up to date answer.

How can I best find catchers with the best caught stealing percentage?

Thank you!

In the player search, be sure to set your search settings to Advanced at the bottom of the search. This will give you access to many more searchable categories. One of these will be CSPCT and that will give you the actual caught stealing percentages instead of the arm grade. Much like I commented on the defense thread, not all A+ or D- or any letter grade are created equal.

For reference, the highest CSPCT in the sim's database for a player with over 500 PAs is 1971 Thurmon Munson, with 60%. There are also others at 60% who have 400-500 PAs.

2014 Stephen Vogt has a 95% in 287 PAs. That's the highest in the database (though it is technically an error, as he caught all 3 runners who attempted to steal on him that year) without any PA restriction.

It's important to note that one of the ways a catcher's CS% works is that it prevents the other team from even attempting a steal in the first place.  I don't know exactly how it works, but Sparky clearly takes into account the catcher's arm rating when deciding whether or not to send the runner.  So when you look at your stats at the end of the season, these "super A+" arm guys often don't throw out a lot of runners, because very few SBs are attempted against them. I use 64 Roseboro a lot, and while he does throw out a high percentage of runners attempting to steal, his real value is preventing the SB attempt in the first place.
