Seble,

I have one request, which would not directly impact game play, but would help in game planning and I think increase enjoyment -- a better, deeper statistical database.

For example, with just a boxscore, I can quickly break out how many points were scored in the paint, long twos and threes and get a better idea of a team's defensive strengths and weaknesses.  But there is no way to keep track of this outside of tallying it myself by looking at every boxscore.  Even relatively simple ratings like team offensive efficiency, team defensive efficiency, rebounding rate, true shooting percentage are not available on the website. You could even calculate a player's PER and use it to guide the computer in making All-American and All-Conference decisions.

I think/hope this change would upset no one.  If people don't care about advanced stats, no one will force them to dive into them.  But having those stats available would greatly increase enjoyment of the game for those of us who like and believe in the value of advanced stats.

I'd love to have PER given to us, and not have to calculate it

I would to see a change in timeouts, even some coach control on how they are used.

I just lost a game with a 10 pt lead when my opponent went on a 15-0 with no timeout called. When it gets to the end of the game both teams tend to have all their timeouts and they seemed to get called with no reason.

Could be something simple like the foul leave in longer/take out quicker. Then an end game philosophy save x timeouts for final 2 min. use timeouts for foul substitution.

That's actually how coaches operate in real life.

Well, what impact do you want timeouts to have in the game.

I have no idea what impact they have now.

If you call a timeout, does it now do any of the following:

1.  Add back some rest (that is, reduce fatigue)
2.  Make the offense or defense more effective on that particular possession (depending on who called the time out)
3.  Let you substitute players.

If it allows for some of those things, then allowing for a strategy is a good idea .. if timeouts don't do any of those, then having a strategy is pointless.

I would think it should do all three. That's what it tends to do in a real game. I have no idea if it does anything here or not. If it doesn't do anything and why to they exist and get called?

If we're simulating coaching, use of timeout is probably the single biggest game factor a coach has.

The other part of the stats that I would love to see concern defense.  If you run a zone defense, its hard to tell/quantify how the presence of a defensive stopper impacts your D.  I would love to have stats on players that would show your team's offensive and defensive efficiency when that player is on the floor (i.e. when John Jones plays, the team has an offensive efficiency of 106.7, but a defensive efficiency of 108.9).  You could even do it for combinations of players -- what are the efficiency numbers when players A, B, E, F and G are on the floor?

If Seble could create a ton of advanced stats like that, he could probably charge a premium for access to them. I would pay $1-2 more per season for access to kenpom-like stats.
