I figured we are due for another discussion/rant whatever you call it of mine it’s been awhile, and some things have bothered me more and more, and it’s not like this is actually going to do anything since WIS is completely 100% useless, both not caring and not wanting to ruin what they have going financially, but whatever I still care and have hope that one day that WIS learns how to actually do something right(which there isn’t, I’d say the chances of that happening are about as slim as my chances to become POTUS [0% if you were wondering]
Here’s what I will rant about to make it easier for you to read:
- 1. Jobs(logic, firings, hirings) everything wrong with it
- 2. Prestige Calculation
- 3. Baseline Prestige
- 4. Recruit Generation
- 5. Conference Realignment and how it is very hard/impossible currently
- 6. Upcoming “fixes”
- 7. 2x worlds
- 8. Why nothing will change for the good (corruption/protecting finances
1. Job Process
Seriously what do I have to say jobs are the most backwards ******* part of this game, embarrassing and WIS should be ashamed and the “refusal” to change them, I say refusal because secretly they don’t want to change them as well as they just suck in general about doing anything related to “improving” this game.
Why do jobs suck, well jobs suck because they are opposite of what they should be, they are downward scaling, meaning to “move-up” you actually have to get to a point better than the job you want and then move downwards to said job. There is no upwards scaling jobs except when you are moving up divisions from 3-> 2 and 2->1, but from within 1->1 it is backwards scaling. Obviously this causes a lot of problems, it takes a lot longer to get to a desired job, because you have to build a worse basleine or situated program up better than your current job, so for example darnocc has now led Tennessee in Crum to an A- prestige off an E8 (#6 ranking) and S16 this past season, however cannot qualify for same prestige A- USC. Here’s the kicker Tennessee is a believed B+ baseline prestige school and USC is a B baseline prestige school. So not only is there better success, the same prestige, and a higher baseline he doesn’t qualify for USC. Now USC gets “coached” by the sim ghost’s and run into the ground, before someone comes in from a higher prestige and baseline and has to endure rebuilding USC. This does make sense to you right? Oh wait lol, it doesn’t because it’s garbage. What we see happening is Tennessee is being punished for having to rebuild from when Darnocc took over, and since jobs are crap and the way HD works, it’s very rare to not have to rebuild a school. So effectively there is a punishment for taking over a crap school and making them into a top tier program. HD places an enormous value on longevity or actual ability. And sadly it comes down to 2 reasons (or just one) either stupidity and/or money. Stupidity being that WIS is just too ****ing dumb to actually do anything/incapable. Or the whole reason is they don’t want these good coaches being rewarded for their success and want to delay their rise to the cream of the crop where they start to bring in lots of rewards. Letting coaches that rebuild programs quickly and prove high level of talent would suck for WIS if they were to quickly land a highly coveted job turn it around and compete, because that means Credits and WIS hates you for getting credits. That’s why they love the current job process it allows the coaches who have played for a long time and not learn how to play hold onto coveted jobs and not do anything with them while new, better coaches are left out only to wait for others to get bored or discouraged.
Firings are never going to happen again solely based on monetary reasons, the coaches that would be fired in the ideal process are the ones WIS loves, they suck, but don’t care and continue to pay enormous amounts of money, because WIS would rather have a **** coach at Indiana that survives on nothing but PI bids and the occasional NT bid than to the more talented coach that would turn Indiana into a perennial power and earn much more credits. Because if firings took place we’d probably see that Indiana coach leave and not take another “lower” job. But with the current model, they keep the Indiana “whale” and continue to promise the much more talented coach hope that one day with enough success, time, and luck he too will one day land a job of their choice.
And sadly or at least unknown to us if the hate is deserved Seble gets to be called names like idiot, loser and chump (granted mostly by me) because we don’t know the setup of WIS if Seble is actually incapable, busy, or not able to by higher management? If it is option #3 let us know so we can curse them instead of you.
Honestly I’m not even sure if it’s worth it to write a detailed version of how hiring’s/firings should look, I feel everyone knows how the game works and understands what a good system would be, and WIS is not going to listen so it would just be a waste of my time and I have more stuff to citizen and complain about.
Sorry Darnocc if you didn’t want to be singled out, I felt if I used my Yale team in Tark as an example I would just go off on a barrage of f-bombs to seble and WIS for the completely bull**** situation and ont provide a somewhat decent write up. Also another situation to look at would be gvsujulius at Louisville I remember the problems encountered trying to “move up” to other schools that were actually lower prestige than his but couldn’t.
Tldr: **** WIS jobs are ****ty and should be the #1 priority but we get to get lead on by promises of fixes to recruiting that makes it “more fun and competitive to be non big 6” My response **** that, I just want to coach Big 6 I don’t care if it’s easier or more competitive at Yale, I don’t want Yale to be my career job in Tark, I want to coach a Big 10 or Big East team but the situation is garbage.
Actual tldr: jobs are crap and are a total joke that will never be fixed for monetary reasons.
2. Prestige Calculation
It sucks if you didn’t notice a trend here. Big 6 teams are too easily able to keep higher prestige by making the occasional PI bid and coasting off a higher baseline while much better programs are held back by baseline prestige. I’m not sure the exact method of prestige calculation, but it uses current prestige, baseline prestige, and conference prestige. Baseline and conf prestige is valued way too highly. Using my Tark Yale team as comparison it’s total crap. Yale is D baseline, I have them coming off:
27-4 RPI 25 SOS 116 NT 2nd round
29-2 #17 Rank RPI 22 SOS 117 2nd round
29-1 #19 Rank RPI 24 SOS 116 NT 1st round
That gives me a B prestige
Here is some comparisons
17-13 RPI 70 SOS 40 PI 2nd round
19-10 RPI 37 SOS 56 NT 1st round
25-6 Rank 22 RPI 19 SOS 51 NT 2nd round
That gives a B+ prestige from a B baseline
23-9 RPI 69 SOS 87 PI Final Four
18-12 RPI 42 SOS 32 NT 2nd round
18-11 RPI 75 SOS 32 PI 1st round
Prestige is B+ from B baseline
Okay they are B+ because they have B baseline and similar results than me not too bad.
16-13 RPI 64 SOS 43 PI 2nd round
15-14 RPI 36 SOS 16 NT 1st round
10-17 RPI 105 SOS 46
B prestige from B baseline.
Nothing but PI bids and maintains B prestige.
So basically the occasional NT bid and strings of PI bids and some seasons with no post season is enough for a higher baseline school to maintain better or equivalent prestige to Yale. Look at Maine and Louisiana Monroe if they were Big 6 schools with that success they’d be B+ probably even A- prestige. But no baseline prestige is weighted enough so that it doesn’t matter success as long as you have a big 6 program you are fine and can’t get fired. I’m not saying Yale should be much higher or those Big 6 schools should be lower, obviously in real life schools like Georgia Tech and VT are still attractive compared to Tulsa and Marquette because of conf and baseline prestige, but would anyone say at the time GT and VT were better or equal to Tulsa and Marquette in the short term? No.(granted both those situations are similar to how HD jobs work) so look at what happened with Florida(hiring Louisiana Tech) Texas(Shaka Smart), Missouri(Kim Anderson), Boston College(Jim Christian).
It’s basically impossible for a Big 6 program to go lower than a C/C- and next to impossible to get to and go beyond a B/B+ for low baseline schools. It needs to be weighted more towards recent success and less baseline/conference, without completely giving up the prestige boosts that being in a Big 6 conference should provide.
3. Baseline Prestige
A bit different but I think this is something that can be implemented quite easily with only minor fuss since a full conference realignment is 100% impossible.
I did a giant prestige calculation in the fall which got little notice for the amount of work it took and the results it displayed. I still am 100% in support of the model if I just adjusted to keep non big 6 conferences equal and prestige and the Big South conference should have schools varying from D- to C baseline they should just be averaged and given like a D+ baseline to all schools or something, I will post it here modified. As well as top level schools that may not have the recent success but non basketball factors keeping them A+ baseline like UCLA and Syracuse:
However to make it more balanced some schools/conferences need changes:
I think schools like Charlotte, St Boneventure the weakest in the A-10 should be able to be C+ baseline schools which I think is the equivalent of how in Big 6 conferences schools like VT/Butgers keep a B/B- baseline.
In the ACC I think GT deserves to maintain a B baseline and not C+. UVA deserves B+
I the Big 10 Indiana moves to A/A+ prestige.
The Big east see’s Syracuse go back to A+ as well as G-Town
Big South is all D prestige sorry Winthrop
Big West is D+
CAA is D+ with VCU being B(I don’t know if they deserve B+ even if math said so) Mason is a C although I could be down for just keeping VCU as the only non D+ CAA school
CUSA is all C prestige except Memphis which is B(math says A)
Horizon is C-, Butler is B(math=A-), Marquette is B(math=B+)
Ivy are all D+
MAC is C-
MEAC is D
Metro is D+
MVC is C but Wichita can get C+/B-
MWC is C SDSU gets B along with BYU, UNLV, New Mexico, and Utah
NEC is D
OVC is D
In the Pac-12 bump Oregon, Stanford, and Washington to B+. Maybe even Cal although B is better. USC is B-
Patriot is D
In SEC bump LSU B+, USCe C+ Arkansas B/B+ Auburn C+
SL is D+
Southern is D+ but Davidson is C+
Southland is D
Sun Belt is D/D+
WCC is D+/C- but Zaga is B+/A-
I will post in the original thread what the new prestiges would look like to make it clear.
Updating Baseline prestige is thr closest thing that can be done to conference realignment. Some schools take some hits, but with current success being more valued it should be a barely noticeable effect of for example Rutgers if you already have them built up there should be no punishment.
4. Recruit Generation
Teams are completely unrealistic at the Big 6 level, there are no teams that are all 90+ ath/def in real life except for maybe 2014 Kentucky. Whereas a majority of NT big 6 teams are all 90+ ath/def. Recruit generation is a much better way to fix the problems plaguing D1 than to do a massive change in the process of recruiting with the same generation and in the process ruin D2 and D3 recruiting. If you want to see battles for recruit, don’t just make it harder to find guys, make guys that are worth battling for, don’t make 100+ guys with 90+ ath/spd/def/per potential make maybe 20ish guys that are good and the 1-5 studs that everyone wants and will battle for. Make the top 100 or top 50 overall ranked players visible to everyone right away and eliminate distances cost, but not completely I think it should have an slight advantage for schools within 100 miles maybe 1.5-1.25 worth the effort or whatever the difference in effort recruiting a player from A to B+. get rid of players being ranked with 1 ath it is completely unrealistic. We should not see any teams with 90+ ath/def at every position including backups. Barring of course the coach recruits nothing but ath/def and we see a servere drop in the teams offense/bh/pas and other key ratings. I’d love to see ath less correlated to high defense, there is such a thing as an athletic player who is a great scorer with elite bh but cannot defend and players with elite ath that suck at defense.
I’d l’d love to see IQ treated more like FT and not just make it 4 years A/A+ IQ. For example have a juco recruit and you call the coach and get a message saying he runs Flex and equivalent of B- knowledge say we get potential is high/low(which is 1 full letter to A- projection) Now say you run triangle, just apply a penalty of 1 letter grade so his incoming IQ is C- and potential is B-. Now there is no 4 different IQ’s a player has he just has 1 offense and 1 defense and it changes to what ever off/def the coach runs so it would read as Flex: A- Press B. I’m not sure how the generation would work it would amazing too see the results of how teams are with players not all the same an have seniors capped at B offense and B+ defense while another coach and come in with a freshmen that has B+ IQ and no potential left and D- defensive IQ with high/high potential to B- cap. This is actually one of the cooler things I think and would make a lot more intriguing to the game.
5. Conference Realignment
IT”S NOT HAPPENING.
Its too complicated. It’s too hard and poses to many problems for the game and the players, the best that could be done would to be doing some minor reshuffling.
I propose moving Utah to the Pac-10 in exchange for Hawaii I think this is the most logical and easiest switch to make.
Otherwise it gets tricky maybe:
Swap Notre Dame and Maryland which is the easiest and least messy, but could **** off a lot of Maryland coaches.
Otherewise I don’t see a lot of swaps that could happen with the way conferences are currently built all being 10-16 members it doesn’t work, you can’t have Syracuse or Louisville in the ACC because their isn’t anyone you can put in the Big East.
The only way this could be done is if HD 2.0 was made and the number of conference games and non-conference games was
increased and we started from scratch. Not happening, a baseline prestige change is the best thing you can ask for that is related.
6.
Upcoming fixes are nothing good
They are trying to place a bandaid on your elbow while you sit there with a torn acl. They think they might be fixing somehitng while it might help your elbow it doesn’t do anything to help your knee out. The recruiting changes aren’t going to make a difference Big 6 schools will still control everything. It still doesn’t help the fact that you cant move up jobs, it still doesn’t help the fact prestige calculation is weighted incorrect. It still doesn’t help anything except try and distract you from the real problems while not fixing anything that is even really broken, all while potentially making the game worse, with the in season recruiting and no “true” recruiting your first season making already long and wasteful rebuilds longer. Taking away bonus cash at D2/D3 is pretty much the single dumbest, irrational, stupid, and questionable decision to make. D2 and D3 recruiting will become absolute garbage and power conferences will be buried alive in a casket and then shot 10 times with a shotgun.
If you want to fix recruiting without touching generation and prestige what needs to be done is simply half the post season cash for D1 and leave D2 and D3
I won’t be as super hateful on this yet since I still will allow the beta world to be experience before I decide to hate everything being changed.
7. 2x worlds/2x accounts
This are sort of related, at least for me, but I think there is sizeable interest into opening at least 1 more 2x speed world. I think at this point you can forget trying to save face and fill up the current worlds as that isn't going to happen. Speakin on my behalf I have 2 accounts to double up on the 2x worlds because of how ******* slow the 1x worlds are it's half a year to just get you're first class through whereas the 2x worlds are much time friendly. Also I believe there is some quite populated 2x worlds contrary to belief. D1 population of the 2x worlds is on par if not a tad higher(according to billy's data from over the summer). D2 population is about the same, as well as D3 2x worlds being about the same population. I think adding 2 worlds would also drum up some interest brings the total number of worlds to 12 with 7 1x and 5 D2x(although I'd really love a total of 7 2x worlds). Again speaking for me in this situation I'd give up my 2nd account and maintain this account only now, since I'd have no real reason to double on the 2x worlds. Again it might not detract cheaters, but it could help just get rid of all non cheaters with multiple accounts.
8. Why none of this matters and nothing will change for the good.
WIS has us right where they want us, it’s designed perfectly so that they minimize effort and receive enough cash to not worry about trying to bring in more people, any changes for the good would affect the income of cash and cause the whales to leave and be filled by players good enough they won’t have to pay. They continue to lead us on, I don’t even remember what or when the last biggest change was because it was before me and I have now been here 1.5 years. They can do this all because HD is the best basketball simulator out there, sadly no one is capable of creating something to rival it, similar to how Madden sucks dick but everyone buys it, it’s a monopoly. Saying HD is the best basketball simulator is like saying wining 4th place in 2 man foot race.
Well I decided to cover everything a bit instead of cover one or two things in depth, oh well. It’s not like I am paid to do this although if I was I’d have put more effort into HD than any WIS employee has for the past 5 years.
Basically WIS won’t change anything for the good because that ruins their biggest stream of revenue and new coaches are screwed by the way HD is designed and long tenured coaches are in the mindset of we experienced so you should have patience and deal with it too(not all).
Out.
