DON'T DO IT.
We know, you're excited. You're finally playing HBD. You know your sports. You've always wanted to run your own team.
And it would feel really cool to make a big splash your first week on the job, right?
Everybody knows.
Every single owner in the world you just joined wants to see how you'll run your team. Many owners just like you like to rebuild a team in their own image, so the other guys might be expecting a fire sale on your players. Unless you picked up a team that's loaded and ready to win right now, there's probably a good reason the previous owner walked away. You've probably got a bit of a mess to clean up.
DON'T let the other guys help you out by taking away the only potentially difference-making players in your organization.
With all respect, one of the hardest things to learn about HBD is how to properly value players. The other guys know this.
That's why, any day now, you'll see an unsolicited trade offer coming from someone, offering you two or three players of his for one of your best prospects.
That's a great deal, right? Rebuild with depth? Those other players even look kinda good when you figure in their draft pedigree or signing bonus, right?
If they were THAT good, the other owner wouldn't be selling them. Fact is, he's given up on them and he knows you don't know what you have.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS.
Here's a tip - yes you win with depth but TRUE difference making players in HBD, cornerstone of the lineup players, are widely and evenly distributed by design. Look around for a team with too many of those guys in one place, you'll know what he's been doing.
It's been said that whoever gets the best player wins a trade. In HBD, it's even more true than in real life.
And here's the worst part - if you trade your top prospect to another team offering you a pile of his spare parts, you're giving him the kind of player he can't normally get, the kind of player he's not SUPPOSED to have access to. YOU'RE HELPING HIM CONTINUE TO SUCCEED.
There are good owners in HBD. There is sportsmanship. There are good trades out there, even good trades for top prospects.
Just not the ones coming to your inbox, starting right about now.
