To redshirt or not... Topic

So I am debating on whether it would be a good idea to redshirt one of my senior centers this season and am wondering if anyone can give me some feedback on whether thats a good idea. I have 4 centers (one a freshman who I don't think will take to redshirting kindly as in recruiting I informed and then uninformed redshirting and then 3 centers that are all seniors). I was able to get 4 freshman signed this season and will have 5 to sign next season. If I redshirted a senior that would help me to start spreading out my classes instead of recruiting 9 new players in my first 2 seasons. I feel like there is upside to redshirting say my second best center to have him come back the starter next season and actually use him but then I feel like there is upside to getting 5 new players next season and having 9/12 players I recruited be from my recruiting. Any feedback is appreciated.

Does he still have room to grow? Because if he does and you redshirt him his WE will go down and he won't improve. Also even if he is maxed out he might still go down because his work ethic would be so low.

His WE will drop to 1.  But if you put 10 minutes of practice time into all relevant categories his ratings should hold.  He may lose a few points in the off-season and with the low WE really won't get them back.  If you can handle losing a few points here and there it's not a bad idea to start balancing your classes.

Depending on his WE it might not drop to 1. I redshirted a senior post player for the same problems and while it dropped a lot it is still in the double digits and he is still growing slightly in the 2 categories he wasn't quite capped in.

Personally I would want all those SimAI recruited  bigs off the roster as soon as possible.  You will be able to find a lot of players who are better than those bigs next recruiting session. You should be looking for guys who will have core potentials that will get into the 60s (Ath, Reb, Def, SB, LP for bigs) If you want to change your class size look for a JuCo or two next session, but personally I wouldn't worry about it, just recruit the best players.  Use your redshirt on one of the freshmen you recruited.  I personally try to redshirt the player who will be the strongest in the future, which usually means they have the most potential, but that doesn't always work out.  Also at DIII a lot of players will take redshirts without informing them.  I personally never inform of redshirt at DIII or DII.

I agree with this. I wouldn't redshirt a senior unless you expect to be competing for the post season and they will be a huge piece. If it's a rebuild, focus on building for the future.

Thanks for the info, ended up redshirting my freshman pg, he had the highest WE among the freshman I recruited and seems to have some decent upside.

I don't see any reason to redshirt either of your backup Centers.  Neither are that great and you could probably find a JUCO that would be better than them anyway.
