Team Option for next season. Topic

If I needed to free up cap space for next season, could I release a player subject to a "team option" for next season?  Would that credit against the cap appear immediately upon the release so that I could use it to resign a free agent or complete a trade?

Yes.  I have done this.  Also works for a mutual option.
