Promised Minutes Topic

Hey guys, me again...

I promised a player 15 minutes, some guys he gets well over 15, and some games not so much. He's averaging about 14.2 minutes per game. I haven't gotten an email complaining, and his work ethic hasn't diminished. Is he going to become upset at the end of the season, if it's not at or above the 15mpg? Or is he satisfied, since he's getting over 15 occasionally?

I recently promised a recruit the same thing.  I thought you had to get around 75% of the promise (11ish minutes) and some have said all the way as high as 85% (just under 13 minutes).  Regardless, over 14 minutes is well over 90% so you should be good!

It's based on the average. If you give a guy 30 minutes one game and 2 minutes the next, you've averaged out to 16 and you're fine.  And the general rule is that a guy won't complain if you give him 80% of the promised minutes (in your case 12 mpg).

If you gave a minutes promise to a guy who isn't very good right now, but you don't want to cut (say a freshman with lowish ratings right now, but high-high potential in key attributes), then jack up his minutes against bad SIM teams.

Thank you for this, I had no idea about the 80% general rule of thumb.

If you haven't seen a work ethic drop, you're golden. If the work ethic drops one point, thats your first warning...an email and another point drop will follow a couple games later if he continues to be below his threshold. If you aren't seeing the work ethic drop (and you're at least 6-7 games into the season), you're safe and can use that to guesstimate what percentage you need for him. The kid won't leave if there's no work ethic drop.
