Promised starts Topic

I recruited a player this season, and I promised him that he would start this season, and play 25 minutes/game. We',ve played 25 games so far, and he has started every game, and is averaging 25.5 minutes/game. My question is; if I don't start him the last game, will there be any repercussions by him, such as complaints, threats, drop in WE, etc? Am I obligated to start him, or play him a certain amount of minutes in the CT, or post season tourneys? Thanks for your help in advance.

If you don't start him the last game there will be no repercussions.  I think it's generally accepted that as long as you fulfill  80% of the promise, the player won't complain.  But in this case for sure, since it's the last game of the season, and promises don't have to be fulfilled once the conference tournament starts, you can probably take him completely out of the lineup and not have to worry.

I typically do not promise minutes because they are much harder to control than promising starts. I've certainly never promised anyone 25 minutes per game, as almost none of my players ever get near that number and to get them there not only would they have to get tired but my other (possible better) players would play less.

Plus, with promised starts, I can set up other measures to start a guy and then pull him quickly so he actually averages less minutes per game than his backup who is better.

Thanks for the info guys, very helpful for the future. I did'nt start the player last night, but he played 17 minutes off the bench, and seemed perfectly satisfied with that, and we won.
