two questions right now:

1. salary capped or no?
2. why only 9 drafted? We have literally the entirety of the history of the nba to choose from... should be easy/a requirement to draft a full 12. If no cap, it's no problem. If there is a cap, it requires careful planning!
1- We will have a cap. Not sure what. $45ish?
2- Not opposed to a full 12. Thought 9 would be easier to fill those last few $.

Why not start players in any season? I like progressives, I'd probably join.
I played in a few other progressives and found the rules in this one lots of fun. Considering we are using all players available with only 12 teams on each side should make it easy to do.

Seems to have some interest. I'll start working on some rules. I have a busy 2 days, so it prolly won't be til Sunday.

$45m cap way too low for something like this. You want interesting players and a tough time managing salary, but at $45m, that's going to be too hard & turn too many people off (not to mention the lack of quality players. Remember, OL teams are effectively about $48m when you add in the rookies, and these teams will not have the rookies). Old PPL was $52m cap I am fairly sure (the PCL was, anyway), and that seemed really, really good. I'd consider as low as $50m & as high as $55m, but I feel like $52m was just right.

re: starting in any season...
Here's how the PPL worked. We said you could start the player in any of his first THREE seasons initially. After the first season, if you were in the lottery, anybody you drafted then could be started later in his career (either up to sixth season or no limitation, I can't recall). This made it easier to climb out of the basement if you had a poor original draft, but didn't punish those who drafted well to start with.

The best part of the PPL was that many of the vet owners here worked together on the ruleset, so we ended up with a league we all wanted to be a part of.

The only thing I'd change is this: Honestly, it's hard to get 24 guys to stay committed to anything these days. Aside from changes in real life coming up that affect owners' retaining their interest here, there are things that happen on the site that just drive some people crazy. Even the last ppl, which was a pretty damn big success if I do say so myself, had several people bail even after putting in money at the beginning (and some of them were contenders). While I'd absolutely LOVE to do this prog until the end of my days, I doubt we'll get much more than a five season commit. With that in mind, we could just say that it'll be a five-season thing and you can therefore start a player at any point and even skip seasons, but the player always has to be moving forward in time.

For example, if I drafted Lebron James & wanted to start with 12-13, I couldn't go back and take 09-10 later. I could, however, start with 08-09, then go to 09-10, then 11-12, then 12-13, then 13-14 & it's done. It's still progressive, but there's more control seeing as you have a set goal in mind. That's just an idea. I think dh555 ran something similar to this idea. As I said earlier, I'd love to start this & run it for 20+ seasons.

Thanks Ash. I figured you would remember. And that's very true about the 5 year commit. Starting a player at any point is a good idea. Keep the ideas coming. I'll have more details Sunday. I'm running a fundraiser the next 2 days, but I'll check in.

Which is ways a concern with this type o league. Maybe I'll do a free season to each champ. And a $50 to the overall winner. This was a lot of fun years back. And don't see enough of these leagues.

Why does there need to be a 5 season commitment? Just run it like any other progressive league.

it's an extra enticement (a prize at the end of five seasons).

I like the idea of starting at any season and moving forward (possibly with skipping seasons). Would that player be eligible to be drafted after his final season? I think a cap anywhere from $47M to $52M would be good.
