At one point are you setting your Forward -1, 0, + Topic

Just want tips from coaches around here.

At what point you are setting your SF/PF/C to -1, 0, +1, +2 (3pts shooting)

Normally, I am going -1 at 60 PER, if my LP is 80 higher.
I go 0 at 75 per.

I have a PF, 75 LP, and he is closing in on a 55-56 per. Is it Worth it to put him at -1. He does not get a lot of distro.

Do you act differently with a SF or is it the same to you as a PF/C

just need advices on that subject.

I very rarely have a PF/C above -2. At the D3 level they would need to have a BH/SPD/PER combined score over 120 for me to consider it. If they got to 150, I would probably go -1.

I treat SF's like guards, if the matchup is right and he has the attributes I'll go +2. I play that by sense of smell.

Define sense of smell.

If it doesn't smell right. Don't go there. You will regret it and your friends will make jokes about you behind your back....

99.9% of the time, I will keep my forwards at -2. I don't see any reason why they would be taking 3's unless they have at least a 75 or 80 PE rating, which is quite rare. That's what guards are for. Coaches mistake a perimeter rating for a three point shot rating, it isn't. A perimeter rating determines how far away from the basket you can shoot.

At D3

i will usually try minus1 when a player is 60ish. (and, as a rule of thumb i would probably add 10ish for d2 and another 10ish for d1)

i dont really worry about what position they are playing... in fact i often have to put bigs at a more aggressive 3pt setting as they wont shoot 3s as much as perimeter players.

an exception is if i have a really good 3pt shooting team, then i may not move players to minus1 until close to 70Pe
then i observe and adjust. i have had some guys with PE in the 60s who i set at minus one and eventually moved to zero because they shot the three really well (40%ish). of course, that also interacts with distro and i take into account what their 2pt FG% is also (and also points off Free throws)

when in doubt, try minus1 in non con games and see how they do.

I recall some successful coach who has bigs shooting threes even if they are PE of 40 or 50.. and often those guys would shoot 30 to 35% 3fg . taking maybe one per game at the most.

Tx Olddave. We need to start that C. Johnson Smith - Pfeiffer rivalry. Your campus is the closest to mine.

how about a D1 big with 96 LP, 75 PER, 64 ATH, 45 SPD, and 45 BH in a flex offense??

On my chart, he'd go 0... But heck, what do I know.

I would put him at 0 as well.. But I make adjustments based on results too. Guys who do not shoot at least 33% from 3 after 10 or so games go down one {in this case from 0 to - 1 if he fails to perform). I usually don't go to a plus setting at all for anyone.. I do 0,-1,-2. If a guy consistently shoot better from 3 pt range than 2 pt.. I might bump him to a plus setting, but I don't often play a plus setting.

I place my guards and SF at '0', my PF and C at -2. After 10 games, I look at the performance of my guards and SF. If they stink, I drop them to -1
