Projection report Topic

Are the projections pretty accurate when it comes to the selection committee? How often will a bubble team on the projection report make the tournament. I guess a lot of that comes from the automatic bids but is this report more accurate then the RPI?

it's TOO accurate

it is, i think, precisely accurate. i think they use those proj report numbers at selection time and just go down the list
. #1-4 on proj report are 1seeds, etc.
there are some things that can cause a teams seed to vary from what the proj report says it should be, but that is usually because of rules that dont allow conference teams to meet before a certain point in the tourney (elite 8? i think?)

as yanks points out that does take the suspense out of it, but thats what it is.

yes, if you are trying to sneak in the bottom of the field, then you would have to figure out how many "bid stealers" there are. (CT champs with rpi worse than mid 50s) my recollection is 50 is usually safe and 60 definitely wont get in. but that depends on the world and division.
i would even say for d3 that 55 usually would not get in, but i could be wrong.

So if you have an RPI of 70 but are projected 45th as an example. You would make the tournament?

Yes, the Projection Report after the conference championship games is the order the tournament is drawn from. So the top 64 minus all teams not reaching the .500 mark, minus the bottom teams subbed out for automatic berth for conference tourney champs who were lower on the list.

you would make the tournament unless a very large number of teams with bad records win their conf tournaments

Unless there happen to be 20+ auto-bids below you on the report.

There's no such thing as too accurate for this

One other caveat: need enough wins.

Not in a literal sense, obviously. Takes out some of the suspense of just going down the list and grouping teams off by 4s but I guess that was the idea of implementing this projection report.
