Doc, that dont add up

if you are saying that RE is about 2.5 to 3 times as valuable as ATH in the rebound equation

then at 2.5x

20*1+80*2.5= 220

40*1+70*2.5=215

70*1+60*2.5=200

the advantage for the 20 80 guy only grows at 3x

oops, i guess you meant ATH is 2.5 to 3 times more important than RE in rebounding equation?

2/18/2016 3:02 PM

that doesnt really work either as the third player would KILL the other two if you figured it that way

2/18/2016 3:04 PM

i would think RE is about 2 to 2.5X more important than ATH (in rebounding) but if that equation is close at all then you are going to go with the higher ATH guy as that will help him on O and D.

in this example the athletic kid might be at a slight disadvantage in rebounding, but its a no brainer to take him over the other 2.. i think. possibly in a zone you might favor the high RE low ATH guys if you really needed a center and they had great BLK? maybe

just my two cents

you are right OD, i screwed up the mental math on the 20/80 guy, was really only considering the other two. your math is off too though in your example, 70*1 + 60*2.5 = 70+150 == 220. so its a/c in that case. with reb at 3:1 then its the 20/80 guy.

Thanks for the help. So, to change the question then, supposing I replace the word "Speed" in my original question with "Ath", which would be a better rebounder?

Ath / Reb

20 80

40 70

70 60

If all other things are equal? My personal guess would be the 70-60 guy.

better rebounder, its about a wash between the 40-70 and 70-60. i figure reb to be about 2.5-3x on ath, in the reb equation, so probably the 70/60 guy by a hair.

When you say 2.5-3x athleticism, what do you mean? 2.5 times what?

i mean 1 point of reb is as valuable as 2.5-3 points of reb. the ratio of value between the two is 2.5-3:1 , reb : ath. the way OD does his math, or the math OR shows in the thread linked from this thread, convey the idea.

so, if you have a guy with 80 ath and 80 reb, and you said, what if i went from 80/80 to 80 ath 81 reb, how much is that gain worth in terms of ath? well, its 2.5-3x more, so you need 2.5-3 ath to compensate. so 80 ath / 81 reb is roughly equal to 82.5 ath / 80 reb.

agreed but chap's question is purely about rebounding. its funny, the other thread linked was the same way, these questions always go that way. its not "who is the better player" - but "from a 100% rebounding perspective only, who is the better player". its really a question about the rebounding ability equation.

I like the 20/80 for a 5 all day. 20 for ath is pretty low tho in my opinion. Depending on what world your in you should be able to find a 35/80 min. I run a flex offense and I have a junior that is getting closer to a double double avg but stamina needed to increase for minutes. If you are running a fastbreak/press, I would move the pin a bit.
