D1 Ineligible showed up -- will be stay? Topic

EDIT: Title should read "Will he stay?"

Been searching the forums and couldnt find an answer. Hopefully an easy one, but I've only spent a few seasons at D1 and learning.

I recruited an ineligible (intentionally for class balance) and he showed up and didn't go juco. I pushed all his points into study hall and his GPA of 2.0 in HS now shows a cumulative of 2.9 (almost done with conference play) so far. What are the various outcomes here? He gets a big enough (what # is that?) GPA and just stays as a Freshman? Or will he advance to being a soph? Do I get four years out of him? Is there a chance that even with a good enough GPA that he bolts (more than any traditional player)? No promises were made.

Thanks!

He will return and be a sophomore next season.

At DI schools, the player will only have 3 years of eligibility (depending on their collegiate gpa, they may be granted a 4th year of eligibility if they maintain a 2.7 cumulative GPA or higher) - if they choose to play their 4 year of eligibility they will be playing as 5th year Seniors. At DII schools, the player will have 4 years of eligibility. In both situations, they will be eligible to play beginning with their sophomore year, assuming they have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher after their freshman year.
