If I trade a guy who is arb eligible and it is arb day and his arb number puts me over the cap before the trade is finalized, what happens?

money will be pulled into your prospect payroll from coaches, col/hs scouting... and i think that's it. there's no transfer penalty, it just gets pulled automatically. not sure of the order.

This is what happens if you trade for the guy and the hearing takes place after he is on your team.

If the hearing takes place before the trade is processed, and so he has a $ figure attached to him, I think it may work the same as any other trade, which means if he puts you over the cap it will get nullified.

scottfalk, mind giving details of the trade (player names/links, etc.) so we can follow along?

I assume it's in Feller, but as someone not in the World I can't see details.

Let's say you have $10mm available and you trade two guys that are worth $8mm but another ARB guy is asking for $4mm. The trade won't be processed until AFTER the arb hearings so what happens to the $4mm guy?

The trade will not go thru if you don't have the cap space.

No, I have the cap space but I'm now out of money because of the arb guys that will be traded after the arb cycle. Its more of an arb and budget question than anything else.

I have no idea what you're asking. Once arb is complete, the player has an assigned salary. At that point, you either have cap space to complete the deal or you don't.
