I have a freshman with a 3.01 GPA coming out of high school. I typically give freshman 10 minutes of study hall, but was wondering if it's I can get away with only giving him 5 minutes of SH?

in my experience, that might work - if his grades at midterms disappoint, boost SH

I always give all incoming freshmen 6 minutes. Maybe only 2 people ever got in trouble for grades in 200+ seasons I have

damn I usually do 4-3-2-1 for fr-so-jr-sr

10 is way too much your losing too much practice time.

just increase by 2 or 4 if they come back yellow at midterms

5 is more than enough with a 3.01 gpa

Thanks guys. Will probably go with 5 then. Even though he's my only freshman and maybe the worst player on the team at this point, he still plays an important role on the team, so it would be a huge loss if we ended up losing him.

I don't go 10 minutes unless they're in the 2.0 to 2.3 range

altho one should keep in mind, as Dean Wermer points out, we work at institutions where the primary mission is education and these student athletes are here primarily for education....except at UNC of course.

I'd probably go 4. I don't ever start with more than 7. If they are up around 3.3 or so, I'll usually start with 0.

I give 3 then make adjustments at midterm.
