Guards and 3 pt Shooting Topic

Is there any significant statistical data out there that might suggest that guards with a high low post rating are more effective perimeter shooters? Normally, some of the best three point shooting teams are from weaker conferences, but I'm also noticing the players/teams(from Big 6 conferences) with the best three point shooting percentages are also guards excellent in the low post. It's also a possibility that the other player is already jacked up in other categories, like athleticism, aside from speed, ballhandling and periemter. Does a guard that poses an inside threat, make the opposing defender back off?

Need also to look at how many threes those guys attempt

I sometimes have guys who produce very good 3 pt percentages in part because I dont distro a lot of threes for them - like if they are strong taking it to the basket

more complex than % alone

but I dont have any useful data

I guess that would make sense, considering it could be A) a small sample size B) if you set your guard to -1, his 3pt FG% would be higher considering he's "mostly" taking wide open threes and not forcing any shots from the perimeter. There are definitely a lot of variables that need to be taken into consideration.

Supposedly, PE, Speed and then BH play an important part, possibly in that order, but think athleticism and low post rating may play, at least, a small part as well

You're probably seeing a lower percentage of three point shots from these guys. I see that regularly. If I have a guy with a 95+ Per and sub 20 lp, I have him shoot +2. Same 95 per with 80 lp will be set to zero and his three point percentage will be significantly higher typically, becuase he takes better three point shots!

Yep. That would definitely appear to be the most logical explanation. Makes sense now. Thanks.
