I need help with this team!! Topic

Took over Penn State in Wooden as a rebuild project. Right off the bat, they become my first live fire experiment for 3.0, and I TOTALLY SCREW UP recruiting season one. After two exhibition and one regular season game I truly know this team is "BAD".
Public comments, advice, and abuse here in forums. Sitemail me too if you want. I need a totally honest opinion and advice how to get at least a few wins from this group. I cannot afford an 0-27 the season I am trying to recruit nine slots.

Are you asking how we got in this mess? Aiming too high, battling too long, and not having anybody left in my recruit pool, or the cash to get pool built back with a few guys in it.

Other then that, not paying attention when I was in school has helped get me here!

I just took over Navy in Wooden, my first D1 team. I have to replace a lot in the first two years as well. My advice is to just focus on defense and athleticism. That will at least give you a solid foundation to build from. You can find recruits with good potential in those areas and the lack of skill in other areas might scare other D1 teams away.

But I have limited experience here so others could probably help more.

Sorry, misread your original post. As far as getting some wins this season, double teaming might give you a defensive boast in close games. It's risky, but you're right -- straight up, your team will almost always be the underdog.

Do we know just how important the previous season record is to recruiting in 3.0? If winning isn't a recruit's preference? Even if you have a terrible season, you should still be able to find good recruits.

Next year in recruiting, you can cut sim signed players and you get full credit for them. I'd play slowdown, and try to get the few good players you have to stay in the game as long as possible. There are tons of high potential, currently decent players out there, so I'd focus in recruiting on them and maybe one stud or two that matches up well with your preferences. Then in 3 years, you will have a very good team as they all get to the 750-800 overall range.
