Saving Game plan based on Opponents Topic

Hi, I am a few seasons in now, yet I find myself still learning and trying to figure what works best. I do have data on how well or poor my team preforms against different Defenses. When I set up my Player Game Plan, there is an option to save by defense or all defense by default. I can't seem to do that when setting my Team Game Plan. I'm splitting practice two defense and two offenses. Does anyone know my Game Plan I select can be saved based on the Gameplan my Opponent has? Seems very repetitive day to day. If this seems unclear anywhere please correct me. Its getting pretty late for me. Thanks for any input you may have. I originally posted this under the Welcome forums but this should be better suited here.

You practice 2 different offenses??? Don't do that. Just run 1 offense.

2 defenses can work but it's pretty rare and it's mostly done successfully by veteran coaches. For 99% of folks, pick 1 defense and roll with it.

I like to use 23 min in both O/D fyi

You can set distribution based on the defense your opponent runs. I don't recommend this as a winning strategy, but you can do that if you want to.

There isn't a way to set your gameplan based on the sets your opponent runs. I don't think that would be optimal anyway. The best way to gameplan (IMO) is to look at how many 3s he takes, and where most of his scoring comes from, and adjust from there, on defense. Look for defender matchup liabilities they might have, and try to exploit them on offense.

If that's more than you want to look at, I know successful coaches who just play to their own strengths, and let their opponents try to beat them.

I agree. I will say, there may be some merit to the idea of spending 5 minutes on fastbreak for late game settings, as some do that with press, who don't want to play a combo defense, but want to have the strategic option in late game settings.

Great input, very helpful answers. I'm planning on a being a loyal coach for my DII team, and have ran motion for the past 4 seasons. I wanted to transition to fast break with my future recruits so I allocate 8 mins to fast break, and 15 to motion right now. Next season I was going to swap those, then next season go full fast break. I'm thinking it isn't the smartest idea now. I do like the idea of late game fast break strategy. Thanks a ton for the help. I have a little to think about.
