Maui Classic, Great Alaska, Etc... Topic

Hey guys,
Crazy idea came back to me this week as the Thanksgiving tourneys get underway.

HD could set up a holiday tournament system under this framework:

HD Holiday Tourneys:
- neutral court games.
- 4 teams per tourney.
- round robin format (not bracketed).
- owners apply for next season's tourneys, and HD decides on invitations at end of non-conference schedule.
- prestige bump for participants or winners or something.
- 8 Total Tourneys.

6 tourneys would take place in gameslots 2, 3, and 4:
- Paradise Jam.
- Maui Classic (requires B-minus prestige or better).
- Great Alaska Shootout.
- Wooden Legacy.
- Battle 4 Atlantis (requires B-minus prestige or better).
- Coaches v Cancer.

2 tourneys would take place in gameslots 7, 8, and 9:
- Wounded Warrior.
- Cable Car Classic.

That's all. Pretty simple!

Tarek talked about this a long time ago but it never came to fruition.

Authentically replicating the Maui and Alaska tourneys would be tough since those are hosted by D2s IRL. But that can be worked around.

I know some coaches have taken it upon themselves to schedule tourneys using these boards, I don't know how common that still is.

Right, I had done 2 years of Crum Tourneys in Seasons 79 and 80. It was pretty cool but took some time for me to organize, plus there were no rewards for the winners.

You're right, Chaminade couldn't get into the Maui under HD formatting. But I was thinking maybe each Division could have its own batch of tourneys.

It'd be a fun idea for sure. Makes a subset of regular season games a little more relevant.

I ran a round-robin ages ago in Naismith that had 4-6 teams involved. Biggest issue was getting everyone to schedule on the correct dates.

These were the threads for the Crum 79 and 80 tourneys. They had a lot of interest!

Love the idea of early season tournaments.

By the way, winners of the Crum tourneys of s79 and s80:

CRUM 79:
Maui Classic: Maryland, rcoffey45.
Great Alaska Shootout: Texas, knappj.
Battle 4 Atlantis: LSU, treyomo.
Cable Car Classic: Cal, bucknaked.
Wounded Warrior: St John's, sionnach99.
Paradise Jam: Memphis, unc_tigers.

CRUM 80:
Maui Classic: LSU, treyomo.
Great Alaska Shootout: BYU, duke137.
Battle 4 Atlantis: Pitt, goodtymes31.
Wooden Legacy: UCLA, lakevin.
Gavitt Games: UConn, piman34.

- treyomo at LSU went undefeated in 2 tourneys.
- lakevin at UCLA won the Wooden Legacy 80 which makes sense for the Bruins.
- piman34 at UConn won the Gavitt Games 80 which makes sense for a Big East team.
